Can't Boot in Windows DVD? Check Your Boot Type/Mode (Legacy or UEFI)

in #esteem6 years ago

Earlier today one of my co-employees approached me while I am troubleshooting our office's CCTV system.

He said he cannot use his Windows notebook because he forgot the password. I just told him to give me his notebook.

My office mate was gone for a while and when he returned, he handed me his notebook.

He said, you can do whatever it takes, or you can format it so that I can use it.

In my mind I have a proven tool (in DVD) of removing password on Windows machine. And it will be a walk in the park.

But when I arrived at my table, I realized that the tool was nowhere to be found because it was engulfed by a fire incident that happened few years ago.

And I cannot create a tool because I have no blank DVD disc that I need for creating the tool. So, I have no choice but to format his notebook.

But when I am about to boot his notebook using my USB DVD drive it was not able to boot the Windows installer inside the USB DVD.

To my surprise the default boot mode of his notebook is UEFI, so I need to change it to "Legacy", and voila, his notebook is now booting on the Windows installer.

So, what happens?

It seems that his notebook was not able boot in UEFI mode. Whenever you are booting a computer using a Windows installer make sure to check the boot mode on the BIOS.
