Although the RCMP members are spread all across the globe, their roots are strongly tied in Regina. At Regina, the RCMP academy or the military base offers the members with astute and high-class training since its inauguration in 1885. Thus, located on the front lawn of this notable training base, the RCMP Heritage Centre breathes life to one of the historic and inspiring stories of Canada’s armed forces, the tale of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Thus, the heritage center invites the visitors from foreign cities and the regional setting, to explore in its galleries the evolution of a century-old Royal Mounted police from the creation of the North-west Mounted police in 1873 to the present-day Mountie.
A look at the exhibitions of the main gallery
Creating a Mounted Police
Upon the passing of the Parliament Act of 1873, the North West Mounted Police came into existence. This police force strives to establish friendly ties with the First Nation, maintain law and order situation in the western part of the frontier, cemented the route for the settlers and aimed to enforce the stringent Canadian authority and influence. Therefore, at this exhibit, the visitors can get the chance to meet the pioneers of the mounting police including the Prime Minister, Lieutenant General, and the mounting police first Commissioner. Also, the visitors will explore the challenges that were faced in the prospect of “Creating a Mounted Police.”
Maintenance of law and order in the west
Due to the efforts of the North West Mounted Police, an extreme level of law and order situation have been established in the North West district. Thus, with such maintenance of law, a lot of illegal whiskey trade have been curbed, and the crime in the region was also suppressed. Furthermore, with the prevalence of law, the mounted police aimed to establish ties with the native people across the Canadian savannahs and most importantly, the establishment of the Canadian Pacific Railway that connects Canada with the western district have enabled the settlement of the people much easier.
