From all across the Northern Plains of Canada, the Land of Wanuskewin boomed with the hooves of the American bison and the bustle of the aboriginal, native people for more than six thousand years. However, the best part of this park is that it has retained and preserved the exotic stories of the lifestyle of the native people, their cultural and societal obligations and responsibility till present. The whole history of six thousand years is preserved in the park, and that makes it one of the leading attractions in the largest city, Saskatoon.
The nomadic tribes who are in a constant state of motion and traveling used to gather at this place to look for food, water, and shelter. That’s why the place was named as Wanuskewin that means a place of harmonious gathering. At present, the visitors, just like those nomadic tribes gather all year round according to their preferences and holiday schedule and relive the stories of the old times. Once the visitors walk through the vast Wanuskewin land that is now a city park, they will realize that this place was indeed a sacred and a celebratory gathering point for the nomadic tribes and the native people as it depicted the rekindling of the new world with a penetrating sense of spirituality.
Throughout the times and even at present, the historian sand the archeologists are in their quest of digging the mysteries of the land and its inhabitants. Some archeologists hold the view that the people who lived on these lands were even as older than the people of the Egyptian era when pyramids were rampant.
The archeologists have dug, with sheer efforts, the Wanuskewin land and have found clues and artifacts that depict the day to day lives of the indigenous people of that era. They have found and have preserved relics of the past such as pottery, signpost, memorials, tipi rings, projectile points, plant seeds, eggshell fragments and the skeleton of the animals that all give clues of the thriving lives of the ancient inhabitants. Thus, the sites in the Wanuskewin Land that the archeologists have dug, over the time, have taught the local and foreign visitors considerably of the life of the people. Nevertheless, there are certain sites within the land such as the Ancient Medicine that still clears the cloak of mystery and enigma.
