The Phillip Island Wildlife Park in Australia
Back in 2014 on our first visit to Australia we went to the Phillip Island Wildlife Park.
We just finished our trip on the Great Ocean Road and thought that Phillip Island, a small Peninsula south of Melbourne, would be the perfect next stop.
Im Jahr 2014 waren wir bei unserem ersten Besuch in Australien im Phillip Island Wildlife Park.
Wir haben gerade unsere Reise auf der Great Ocean Road beendet und dachten, dass Phillip Island eine kleine Halbinsel südlich von Melbourne, der perfekte nächste Halt wäre.
Since we wanted to avoid driving through Melbourne again, we took the ferry from Queenscliff to Sorento. It is just a short ferry ride but it saves you a lot of time.
Da wir nicht wieder durch Melbourne fahren wollten, nahmen wir die Fähre von Queenscliff nach Sorento. Es ist nur eine kurze Fahrt mit der Fähre, aber es spart Ihnen eine Menge Zeit.
From Sorento where the ferry arrived it was still about 2hr drive to Phillip Island, as you still need to get around the Western Port Bay with the French Island in the middle.
We´ve spent 2 days on Phillip Island and on one day we went to the Phillip Island Wildlife Park, which is home to more then 100 species of wildlife.
I think the biggest attraction are the Kangaroos and the Wallabies as they are used to humans and you can pet and feed them.
Von Sorento, wo die Fähre ankam, war es noch ca. 2 Stunden Fahrt nach Phillip Island, da man immer noch um die Western Port Bay mit der French Island in der Mitte herumkommen muss.
Wir haben 2 Tage auf Phillip Island verbracht und sind an einem Tag zum Phillip Island Wildlife Park gefahren, in dem mehr als 100 Tierarten leben.
Ich denke, die größte Attraktion sind die Kängurus und die Wallabies, da sie an Menschen gewöhnt sind und man sie streicheln und füttern kann.
It really is a nice place to spend a morning or a afternoon. I wouldn´t recommend to go there in the middle of the day as it gets really hot in summer and most of the animals hide in the shade. Especially for wombats it is best to come in the afternoon.
And in case you do not like the annoying black flies...prepare yourself to get mad. They are everywhere and even crowl into your nose.
You will also see some wildlife which isn´t easy to spot outside of a wildlife park, like the Tasmanian Devil, Dingos or some big Eagle.
Es ist wirklich ein schöner Ort, um einen Morgen oder einen Nachmittag dort zu verbringen. Ich würde nicht empfehlen, mitten am Tag dorthin zu gehen, da es im Sommer sehr heiß wird und die meisten Tiere sich im Schatten verstecken. Speziell für Wombats ist es am besten, am Nachmittag zu kommen.
Und falls du die lästigen schwarzen Fliegen nicht magst ... bereite dich sich darauf vor verrückt zu werden. Sie sind nämlich überall und kriechen sogar in deine Nase.
Sie werden auch einige Wildtiere sehen, die nicht einfach außerhalb eines Wildparks zu finden sind, wie der Tasmanische Teufel, Dingos oder einige große Adler.
As we have been there all the wombats were hiding in the underground and we couldn´t see one. So we talked to one of the employees and they allowed us to come back later with the same ticket.
Bis dahin begnügten wir uns mit den restlichen Tieren des Parks.
Als wir dort waren, versteckten sich alle Wombats im Untergrund und wir konnten keinen sehen. Also sprachen wir mit einem der Angestellten und sie erlaubten uns, später mit demselben Ticket noch einmal zu kommen.
Until then, we were content with the rest of the animals in the park.
When we came back in the afternoon the lazy big wombat finally decided to crawl out of his burrow and he came straight over to us. Finally Fidi was lucky and she also had the chance to pet him.
Als wir am Nachmittag zurückkamen, beschloss der faule große Wombat schließlich, aus seinem Bau zu kriechen und er kam direkt zu uns. Endlich war Fidi glücklich und sie hatte sogar die Chance ihn zu streicheln.

I wouldn't imagine that the cangaroos would be friendly towards tourists, they look adorable :)

thanks @haritakurdu. That´s only because they are used to humans and humans bring food. I would be very careful when approaching a wild kangaroo. Some people don´t know but they could easily kill you.
