Underground Garden Growing Strong At 1/2 The Power The Sun

For 600 Watts of power as listed on the box, this red blue light certainly has served its purpose and is proving to be quite the handy purchase providing these Pepper plants with enough light to grow and produce.

And I run the light on a timer set for 10 hours so at that math.. it’s about 18-20$ a month to run this light.. which is acceptable in my eyes.

Keeping these plants alive into the next season will serve me wonders in terms of production. And the earliest I’ll ever have peppers most likely if all goes as planned.

Wasn’t that long ago this box in the basement was just containers with dirt or containers with bare stalks of what was once a lush and green pepper plant..

Within a few weeks of potting these over wintered pepper plants and placing under a new, more powerful light, they were beginning to show sign of life via the tiny buds on the their stalks at the joints beginning to form..

A few more weeks after that and the stalks had regrown themselves a plentitude Of leaves and had enough energy production to start producing the flower buds...

And a few more weeks after that, those flower blossomed into the peppers we see today.. and the lettuce and herbs like cilantro and basil have also enjoyed their Life under the artificial Sun, growing decently large enough to suffice in such a small container.

But I guess the 100% certainty of the light received in the basement as opposed to today’s “not so frequent” Sunshine, is why I see so much more growth out to the basement plants compared to the Not overwintered pepper plant sitting in the South facing window.

This plant hadn’t had its leaves and limbs severed.. its managed to survive and continue growing and even so much as to grow an entirely new bell pepper!

I am excited to be able to teach my soon to be Son, James, all the wonders that life has to offer. And I pray that he finds interest in some of these things and continues on in life with the passion to learn and question like I do. Life is wonderful.

I take pride in the good care I give my plants, and I know I can up the ante and give out even more love for my Son.
