Do something unusual and free on your Friday night in Rotterdam. Kunstblock is a collection of several art galleries in Witte de With­quar­ter.

Every Saturday, at 19.00, you can hop on a guided tour in English. The guides know their way around and they can give you the artist’s perspective on his or her work.

Right now the sections are only loosely connected in theme. Several artists are showing their projects. I was surprised how good it was. Lots of effort went into their creations and there is a certain logic to it.

Meditation room is truly peaceful and I can imagine relaxing there. Self-service block makes you think about how we approach fulfilling our most basic needs, in a surprisingly dehumanised way when you think about it. Then there is haphazard collection of what seems to be random garbage remade in an art space of sorts.

Light rooms, semi documentaries, technology vs. art and many other concepts will make anyone interested find something to his liking. After you do your rounds, stop for a drink, you don’t have to go far since you are already in the party street of the city.
