Team Europe’s Deep Dive (Report #3)
We’re feeling just a little overwhelmed - not to say utterly delighted - by the wave of positive feedback Team Europe has received. Goodness, who would’ve thought that a simple curation report could spark so many interesting dialogues?! Thank you. We love it. We love interaction. Interaction - surely the very thing a “social” media platform should be about, right?
As the month has progressed, we’ve continued to search for the best that Steemit has to offer from both posts and comments - still spending longer than we’d like looking for both. With few exceptions (all familiar names to us now), the longer, more thought provoking comments have been in reply to a conversation started by us. Whilst this is lovely for us to see and boosts our enjoyment of the platform, we find it difficult to understand why there isn’t more of this around - we have so many votes that we’re desperate to distribute and with a little bit of effort away from your own blog, there’s a very high probability that we’ll find you.
Well then, to keep a long message short: here are our ”Picks of the Week” by users who certainly have no reason to feel slighted by us since they’ve published content that’s genuinely worth reading.

Philadelphia Connection: A Possible Inspiration for Titanic Character Names by @remlaps, USA
@remlaps is known here not only as a programmer and an excellent analyst of economically relevant Steem data. He also regularly writes well-researched texts with a scientific touch on all kinds of topics that interest him - often completely unrelated to computer science.
Today’s piece explores the theory that the characters Jack and Rose from the film “Titanic” may have their roots in real historical events from Philadelphia. He draws connections to local names, places, and incidents that suggest a kind of hidden link.
The Auyantepui project, by @wlin, Venezuela
In this story, former programmer Roberth White meets his old university colleague Sonya in a café - specifically in a dark corner, out of sight of surveillance cameras. Sonya mocks Roberth and considers him paranoid, as he seems to have almost entirely renounced the digital world. What unfolds is a gripping espionage tale. Not paranoia, but a disturbingly bitter reality?
@wlin stands out on Steem not only through his often profound contributions, but also through his engagement with the posts of other users. He frequently enters into in-depth dialogue with them - every now and then, we find ourselves captivated by his comments alone.
🎶Above and Below – A Tale of Rain, Rhyme, and Shadows - Musical Prose with Caribbean Soul 🎤📖 🎸 by @shemzee, Bulgaria
@shemzee is a talented poet, singer and songwriter who publishes stories and his self-written lyrics at irregular intervals. In this compelling narrative, which seems to be part of a serialized novel with autobiographical background, the protagonist is a quiet, serious musician with Caribbean roots. He lives in Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia, caught between the past and present reality, and philosophizes about his identity as a lonely outsider, using rap as his tool.
Sadly, the days when @shemzee used to sing and perform for the Steemians have been over for a while now. But who knows? If you ask him nicely...?
About... Untamed // Tutuboxd by @massola, Brazil
@massola sparks our curiosity about the Netflix series Untamed. What captivates him isn’t the crime thriller storyline centered on a grumpy cop, but rather the setting: Yosemite National Park. He visited the park himself a few years ago with his family, and so @massola combines his review of the show with a short personal travel story and other reflections and memories that the title of the series stirred in him. The article even includes a hand-drawn illustration, proudly featured as the cover image.
Le due Patrie by @aston.villa, Italia
A few Italian users have spoken about their diminishing feeling of “home” in Italy and @aston.villa highlights this in his recent post - Le due Patrie. Spending approximately ¼ of the year in Cuba, a country close to his heart, he fears the same loss of community there, seeing an increase in selfish behaviour. Some parallels could easily be drawn between his post, and events on Steemit which made should resonate with its readers.
Little Norway on the map on the wall there by @digi-me, Norway
When @digi-me’s post caught our attention, we were reminded - somewhat painfully - that some pretty awesome events in Europe are currently happening without us. Tour de France – what an event! We’d love to watch a stage or two live on screen, but… oh well. Next year! In the meantime, we’re passively rooting for the Norwegian Jonas Abrahamsen. Well, actually, more for Oscar Onley and Florian Lipowitz... ;-)
El precio! by @jesusjacr, Venezuela
@jesusjacr is wondering who’s actually footing the bill for the flood of freely available LLM-based AI tools. After all, developing these programs and maintaining massive servers to host enormous amounts of data surely doesn’t come for free.
To begin with, @jesusjacr asks ChatGPT who ultimately pays the price for our “future prospects”, and then adds his own personal thoughts on each point.
Unfortunately, Jesus forgot to explicitly ask what price Steemians will have to pay in the end - those whose platform becomes less and less attractive the more AI-generated content clogs the blockchain. We’re confident he’ll catch up on that part.
NO Votes for Team Europe - 🔥🔥 100% Burning 🔥🔥 by @team-europe, Europe
Last but not least, we’d like to introduce our own project.
Until the end of our term, you’re welcome to cast your full votes here on a daily basis - especially when your VP (voting power) is overflowing and you just can’t find a post worth spending it on. You’ll be doing a good deed: according to expert calculations, burning STEEM helps stabilize the currency.
Of course, there’s something in it for you too: you’ll still receive CR (curation rewards), even though all author rewards go to @null.
Just follow @team-europe and watch out!
Greetings, internet friend! I agree with you that interaction is something that unfortunately I missed a lot on our network an uncountable amount of times; however, I can safely state that I've connected with great Brazilians in the past, and more recently have been happy to be talking with English-speaking people like you, gorilla and remlaps. I've been trying to interact more in the comments, but it's sometimes difficult to change our routines to accommodate new habits... I find myself more often then not bookmarking more posts than I can read and end up not interacting nor reading them all, unfortunately, I guess it's another opportunity to have patience and keep trying (:
I loved this description, especially after having been the past week to one of the most beautiful parks here in Brasil (and in the world!), the PETAR - Parque Estadual Turístico do Alto da Ribeira. My love for nature keeps growing every year I remain on this planet!!
Adding to it, I think that the Yosemite National Park is definitely not only the beautiful background view, but also one of the main characters in the show, just like the woods in Twin Peaks or the forest in The Blair Witch Project.
Finishing off with one of the favorite photos I took during my second time visiting PETAR, the place I hope to add some posts about in STEEM Atlas soon! And thank you once more to you and Team Europe for the support ✨
Yes, it's a great pity that we long-term Steemians in particular have to talk about the past so often recently.
In the past, this place was also teeming with German users - some of them remarkable authors, some of them just great people. They have all left. Probably only wisely, as they recognised the signs of development early on... 😔
I am also pleased to have met you. Unfortunately much too late...
Sure! Unfortunately, it is not difficult for most people to get used to something that the big stake-holders - explicitly ‘the Steemit team’ - have supposedly said. I am somewhat disgusted by this begging ‘follow-the-money mentality’ or conformity of all those who once also had influence. Sorry - I've seen too much in this curator month. Much more than I would ever have dared to imagine.
We have certainly made an effort and (not only) really dealt with the voted posts. So much for the topic of time... 😉
Wow! If I ever get to Brazil, I have to go there!
So long, dear Massola... 😊
This sentence got to me, and I have to confess that this has been a difficult reply to write. I also have been really disappointed and sad with nany things that happened and that continue to happen in this network. However, after my beloved twitter was hijacked from night to day, and it was blocked off in Brazil for some time, I wanted to try to go back to at least creating content somewhere more decentralized; and I hoped this was still the place for it.
And even though I'm not sure anymore of a lot of things, I still like to be writing in here and sometimes interacting with people that I'd otherwise wouldn't be able to, so as long as it's still making sense to me, I'll keep doing it. And despite some disappointments, it's been a truly great surprise to see the work you, @the-gorilla, and @moecki have done through @team-europe and the curating account! To quote your words from one of the NO posts, interactions are what truly make a network social, and your interactions really inspired me to continue trying to create the best content I could, for me and for the community.
It's definitely one of the most special places here in my dear country! But, even if you come to Brazil and you don't have the opportunity to visit PETAR, if you pass by my chaotic but unique city of São Paulo, it will be a pleasure to give you a tour.
So long, dear chriddi :))

Gracias equipo,
I read your post about it and wanted to reply to you long ago. I don't need to repeat the reasons here :-)
I wasn't aware until then that you were also involved in programming. In this respect, your latest post was also interesting.
Having the posts analysed and evaluated by AI is certainly a positive aspect of using AI on Steem. The free version of the models will probably not be sufficient for this. I'm looking forward to reading about your other ideas in the near future.
BTW: There is an approach by @remlaps that has contributions analysed by an AI. Have a look at Thoth.
Saludos!!
I started Thoth with the free models from ArliAI, but somewhere along the way I learned that Gemini has a free tier, too. I never got around to updating the variable naming, but right now, Thoth works with both sets of models. Eventually, I might add Hugging Face API, too, if I can find time and figure out how. I've seen claims that they have a free tier, but I haven't been able to confirm that so far.
The free tier from ArliAI currently offers the Qwen3-14B family, but those results are currently unimpressive. The gemini family which is available for free from Google produces far superior results right now (You can see those results at the @thoth.test account, and you can see a Qwen3-14B run here.).
The main point of Thoth isn't the AI analysis - that's just an enabler. The main point is to provide an alternative to the spammy delegation bots that are currently flooding the social ecosystem here with pollution.
From the original post, I agree with @moecki that there's probably not a free way to do the AI detection at the scale needed to evaluate every post. Eventually I hope to plug both plagiarism detection and AI detection into Thoth, but I'm thinking that both will probably require paid services. The only reason Thoth operates for free is that I do a lot of screening using traditional filtering techniques before the LLM ever sees anything.
Thoth's prompt does direct it to filter out AI and plagiarized content, but I doubt very much if the LLM really has the capability to do that.
As you note, we could roll our own AI detection, but I think that would require more compute & storage resources than I have available to me, and I think it would probably just be cheaper to get a paid subscription to an API from a service that already does it.
Haha, of course, you don’t forget anything. We phrased it a bit ambiguously - please forgive us... ;-)
I love your optimism and truly believe you'll manage to carry out your plans, which are shaped purely by positive thinking.
An automatic “warning notice” is definitely a good idea. But unfortunately, it won’t stop the poison of the chain (auto-votes, forced posts for delegation services...) from spreading. Greed doesn’t care about well-meaning intentions that serve the community.
I'm beginning to believe that you have a WiFi that's connected to my brain. It's like you read the exact thought I had a few weeks ago when I first read your post.
I wondered why it was easier to discuss at length with you. It's almost like I have a response to every word or sentence in each of your post.
It got me wondering what I might be doing that makes engagements come in in trickles. When I made that post about what I would have done differently if I started over on Steemit, I thought of how to make my posts more engaging.
Maybe its the conversational nature of your posts. It's like we are having coffee together and you are speaking directly to me.
I'd have to adopt this. That would mean unlearning the academic way of writing. Sometimes it's like I'm writing to my professors.
But sincerely, I really wish to identify how you and other writers make conversations flow seamlessly. Everything starts from provoking thoughts in the mind of readers. Hopefully, we'd get there soon.
Thank you very much. Your thoughts sound very deep and reflective, and of course they flatter us a little... 😊
If you want interaction with your readers, thought-provoking texts are of course the very first prerequisite.
But what's even more important are the readers themselves. Unfortunately, these have become rare on the Steem. Everyone thinks they are a content producer, regardless of whether they can write or not. Everyone believes that you can only become something here by producing content. That's not true at all. No matter how good you are, you have no chance at all if you haven't built up a network. Hoping that with constant production, a sc will appear at some point - preferably the two really big ones - must be cruel. Well, if you're constantly busy producing ‘crap’, of course you don't have time to read. Which brings us back to the beginning of the vicious circle...
I'm too tired to keep rattling this prayer wheel over and over again and maybe reach one single user out of 100 frustrated ones. Too tired.
I must appreciate your patience. The way you explain this particular thing to the newbies... I can only imagine doing it over and over again!
Thank you.
The patience is gone. And since this is part of what has made me here, I'm going to leave too.
This makes me sad.
I don’t know what you actually mean by this comment, but I do hope I’m wrong in what I have understood.
:((((
At least for a while, you won’t have misunderstood it, no.
You know a few people who have my personal contact details.
But don’t bother me with Steemit affairs if it ever comes to that... 😂
I am glad to hear that things are looking a little brighter and you are feeling a bit more positive. There will always be moments of ups and downs in life. Sometimes, we ask yourselves, is it worth continuing doing what we are doing. And then, there are moments when we feel, things are not as hopeless as they seem.
Take a break when you are feeling stressed. The problems might still be there when you come back, but at least you are rested and you can look a the problems with a fresh pair of eyes and a refreshed spirit.
Keep up the good work. Best wishes to you and Team Europe. Cheers!
Well, things aren’t quite as bright as our text might make it seem this time...
Still, it always feels good to hear a few encouraging, genuinely positive words like yours. Thanks.
And thanks, too, for recognising and appreciating the real effort behind what we are doing. Cheers... ;-)
Ah, I see. Still, no harm looking on the bright side, and giving yourself a little boost of positivity. Sometimes, that is all it takes to get us through another day. :-)
Thak you for the meniton! Much appreciated <3
Hahhaa ;D
So, who do you really reckon will take the win? Honestly, I've no clue this year (even though I'm interested in cycling, especially the Tour de France). Every now and then, I catch familiar names echoing out loud from the living room...
Good to notice that you are also following Tour de France! And I think, due to what we know now, that the most actual favorites to win totally are probably: Tadej Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel. So, I think it will be a tough and close race to the end between these! Or maybe there will be clearly and obviously differences between them!
Good summer!
Best wishes
Him... 😎
I'm going to bookmark this for tomorrow's reading. Thank you for sharing.
