Next Colony: The Siege Chapter 3, Page 1

Cadet Maxwell, thank you for joining us. You know Commander Davis, of course.

Yes Captain. Good evening Commander!

  • Good evening Cadet.

Wow! If it weren't for the fact that I always strive to conduct myself properly, I would think I had done something wrong to find myself in the Captain's private quarters, along with his second in command!

No Cadet, you certainly haven't done anything wrong.

Well then let me say that it's an honor to be here with the two of you! What can I do for you Captain?

Listen to our conversation, and chime in whenever you feel inspired to do so.

Okay!

So Commander Davis, what's going on with Operation Blackout?

  • Not looking good Captain. Our adversary is clever, and well organized. The other colonies have no ships, so they are not a problem. I was thinking of coordinating a precision strike using the SpyColony program to calculate the launch.

And with that Commander, you hope to be able to take out those Explorers?

  • Yes Captain. We can have our science team do the math, and when the Explorer is returning to its colony, we send Cadet Maxwell to intercept the ship before it leaves the surface again.

Seems like a slow process Commander.

  • It is Captain, but it's what we have at the moment.

Commander, if I may, you would have to be precise within a 5 minute window. Our opponent also has access to the SpyColony program, and is tracking our movements. Why not organize a Siege?

A Siege?

Yes Captain. The Attack Missions I have conducted so far are based on quick strikes. I go in, destroy whatever ships are present, teleport minerals into the cargo bay and head back home with the goods. What if instead we send a ship, or a fleet, to Siege the planet, followed by an Attack Mission to take out the grounded ships and collect resources?

Commander?!

  • Sure Captain, it's plausible, but our Mission Control can only handle one mission at a time for now.

What do we need to Phase Up Mission Control?

  • A heavy amount of resources, which we don't have at the moment, and 120 Estimated Earth Hours to Phase Up. Take into consideration that you have a standing Top Priority Order to get the Explorers built.

That's true Commander, and that will stand, but if we only need to Phase Up our Mission Control once, then it can be done immediately. Cadet Maxwell, how quickly can you get us those resources?

A few Attack Missions should do it Captain.

Good work Cadet. You have a sharp mind son, and a good future ahead of you. Prepare yourself to become a good leader. I'd raise your rank right now if it were not for the Commander's concern that it may attract jealousy and envy.

I'm happy enough where I am Captain. And thank you for your concern Commander Davis. Ever since we've been building this fleet, my life has changed, and I feel like I have a greater purpose on this colony. I don't need a higher rank, I'm happy with the responsibilities, and trust, that I've been given by the crew.

  • As well as the notoriety, my young Cadet!

Well yeah, that's nice too!

Nevertheless Cadet, you've done an excellent job today. I'll be calling on you again in the future. I want you to choose your best crew member to handle the Siege, when we're ready. And I want you to handle the follow-up strike force.

Absolutely Captain! It'll be my honor!

Commander, proceed with Operation Blackout. You have full authorization to execute what was discussed here this evening. Cadet Maxwell, what was said here, remains here.

Yes Sir Captain!

Gentlemen, let's make it happen!
