Salar de Uyuni - Memories from 1 year ago

Dear Steemians

The salt desert Salar de Uyuni is the largest in the world with an thickness of 8 meters and a size of 12'000 km.

Before us we had 3 wonderful days.

With my three new friends I went to Uyuni to look for a good agency. There are thousands of tour operators, so it's difficult to decide. In the end we decided on the cheapest offer, which was also good rated on Tripadvisor.

After a night in Uyuni we started Friday morning at 10am.

Our 4x4 Jeep was loaded with all our luggage. There was another Swiss woman with us. So we were a group of 5 people.

Our first stop was the railway cemetery. There are old trains that transported minerals between Chile and Bolivia.

After the stop we drove into the middle of the salt desert.

It's known to take funny photos in the desert, like.

Our guide was unfortunately not a specialist and so our photos were not too good.

After taking enough pictures we drove to the Isla de Pescado. A small island in the desert.

After the island the day was almost over and we saw the sunset over the salt.

In the evening we slept in a salt hotel. Yes it was all made of salt. Also we could see the Milky Way. Unfortunately, we couldn't take good photos.

On the second day we drove from lagoon to lagoon.

Arrived at the first lagoon all were already fascinated Why? Look at the pictures.

The second lagoon became even better.

We couldn't stop taking pictures even if our fingers were frozen.

After lunch we went on through the desert. Altiplano is perhaps also a term.

And last but not least the Laguna Colorada

That night it should get very cold at night. In our sleeping bag and blankets I didn't sleep much. It was just too cold. I was happy when we had to get up at 4 o'clock. We wanted to be at the geysers by sunrise.

However, they were not as impressive as expected.

Afterwards we could warm up in hot springs.

Unfortunately this should already be the last day. On the way to the border, we passed a lagoon again.

Then it was time to say goodbye to Bolivia and hello to Chile.

At noon we were already in San Pedro de Atacama. The Atacama Desert is the driest in the world.

Uyuni was wonderful, especially all the great lagoons.
