Ulog 98: One Of Those "Why Didn't I Think Of That" Moments
We've all had them. We kick ourselves for not doing it. We've even smacked our foreheads when we see someone else doing it! Yeah... I had one of those moments last weekend.
The idea that could've been mine! Or yours!
When my son got married we had made a weekend of the joyous occasion and stopped along the way home at a little community's arts and crafts shows and at one of the stands/tents was these... seasoning packets to make nearly EVERY kind of dip for pretzels, chips and crackers.
Seeing that this was a Michigan based business and product (as well as Mr Golden D indulging in every spicy hot combination) we ended up buying four of these dip seasoning packets. We always support local and small businesses.
On the final trek home, I was reading the packets' label... I checked out the website and thought GENIUS!
So simple... low overhead... and super easy!
So why didn't I think of it first... or already!

Looking at this one, the one I picked out, is your basic Everything Bagel mixture- which keep in mind, I already make for us here on the homestead. But this Pam and her pantry was making it and making money! Yup... smacked my head a few times now.
I make most of our own salad dressings with the herbs I pick from the homestead garden; whether fresh or dehydrated, these herbs add such a flavor to the salad and dressing that no store bought bottle of dressing can match.
So you may be asking, if you already make this flavor seasoning, why did you buy someone else's packet?
Simple- I wanted to see the difference between the two.
Now I may be bias when it comes to comparing my own to anothers', but mine did have a better all over flavor. I toast my sesame seeds, the poppy seeds are just the right amount and I tend to over-do it with the garlic; cut me some slack on this one, I am married to a Sicilian.
One that I really wanted a sample of was the Philly Steak and Cheese dip but it was out at the tent; and after searching on the website, I couldn't find it there either.
This business idea is JUST so easy!
Attend craft shows, set up at summer fairs, start a website, visiting little mom and pop stores along the back roads; the ideas are endless. On the website there's even a tab for fundraising- who else grew tired of the popcorn, cookies, wrapping paper, etc kids sold while in school and sports. PLUS... what a great way to get the name and brand out there! IMPRESSIVE!
The packaging is basic. Some zippered bags and a label you can print on any printer. Again... I have all this on hand here.
So, why didn't I think of this already?
What are some things that have you smacking your head when you realize you should have thought of it first?

So far nothing yet, hopefully I can be the one that let people smacking their head someday... 😂
It is a great idea and definitely a head smacker! I love it when people, like you, really support the local communities. It's hard and takes extra effort (and a lot of times extra money) to do so. But, even though I don't live around your area at all, I still appreciate what you're doing.
