The other night I decided to

have a little fun, and do another timed writing challenge. I gave myself 20 minutes, which is normally a reasonable length of time to get things done, but halfway through, my laptop died! I was so busy paying attention to Ableton that I didn't notice the low battery warning, haha. Luckily, I plugged in and got restarted within 3 minutes, so it could've been worse, but definitely took up a little chunk of my time. I think this song has some cool ideas, particularly in the way that each phrase feels like it starts on the 2nd beat of each measure, so theres a sort of off-beat weirdness between the drums and synths.

Listen to Objex here.

Track 1 just drones on the same

interval for the whole song, moving back and forth between B (we're in Bminor) and F#. Track 2 provides our bass notes, which are mirrored by the wobbly synth bass in 6. That wobbly bass is where the weird rhythm comes from, as it starts on the 2 of each measure, and gives an interesting counter-rhythm to the stuff happening on top of it. Both these tracks stick to a B for the first 8 bars, then a G for 4 bars, and finally an Ab for the last 4, before repeating.

Tracks 3 and 7 provide our

percussion sounds, with 3 adding the reverb laden tom sort of sound (it's actually a synth, but sounded nice and percussive), and 7 the rest of the drums (kick, snare, hihat). Track 4 is an ambient synth pad, which just drones on a B. Lastly, we have Track 5, which plays the same notes as the bass tracks, but in a higher register, and with a much more ambient/floaty timbre.
