Lake Tovel 2025: A Natural Paradise Between Emerald Waters and Legends

Today in this post, we're talking about Lake Tovel, a beautiful Alpine lake that has become very famous for its crystal-clear waters and beautiful colors ranging from azure to emerald green.

In this post, I'll provide you with some very useful information for visiting this place, which is definitely worth a visit, especially for nature lovers.
This lake was famous around the early 1960s for a famous phenomenon that occurred when its waters turned red due to an algae bloom. This phenomenon hasn't happened again over time, although there are several legends surrounding this Alpine lake.

So, you can imagine why this place has attracted more and more people to visit. In fact, as you can see from the photos, today it's a beautiful place in my opinion for relaxing and taking beautiful photos, but above all, as I often do, I come here for beautiful walks, given that there are beautiful trails nearby, very easy to follow and suitable for practically everyone.

As I mentioned, there's a circular trail that runs along practically the entire lake. It's flat and accessible to practically anyone, but you get a chance to see the Dolomites up close in the background along this beautiful route.

Near this lake, there's also a small museum, or rather a visitor center. Unfortunately, I found it closed, but it's usually always open. There, you can also find information about the history of this place, both naturalistic and historical.

INFO on how to get there

There are several options for getting there. You can go up from the Val di Non by taking the SP14 from the town of Tuenno, then you reach the lake, where there are plenty of parking lots available, although you have to pay.

I warn you that parking is very expensive. In high season, it costs around €18 (€128) for the whole day, while after 5 pm, parking is free, and tickets must be purchased at the ticket office in Tuenno, before arriving at the lake.

In my opinion, the best way to save money on getting to the auditoriums is to take a direct bus from Cles, a much more convenient alternative to driving, which will definitely save you a lot of money and, above all, is very environmentally friendly.
