Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Chiquinquirá, Maracaibo.
The Basilica and Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá is the most famous church in my city and I know that it is the one that has lasted the longest.
They all want to get married here, they all want to baptize their children here, and this church is very well cared for by its priests and church members.
The Chinita Fair is held here every year, a televised event that attracted people from all over the world to attend the anniversary of Maracaibo's patron saint. This celebration was spectacular, lasting an entire week with gaitas, our traditional music, and where believers and non-believers would share in front of a platform, singing the songs of the gaiters.
This stained-glass window, one of the church's most beautiful, depicts the story of the venerated Virgin Mary, which is reflected in the lyrics of many gaitas composed for her.
It reads: "While an old woman was washing on the shores of our lake,
she made a great discovery, for she found a small board.
After finishing her work, she took it home
and covered the small jar to protect it from the sand."
The entire interior decoration of the church is unique; you won't see pews of this type anywhere else. The ceiling is painted in relief by painters and sculptors brought from other countries.
On the altar is a crown made of pure gold, which is visited daily by people from all over. This is the image they bring out every November 18th for everyone to see and sing to in the large plaza in front of the church.
That dark-colored thing in the middle is supposed to be the tablet the old woman found, the one that shone when she had it in her house covering the water in her jar, and from there they say they saw the image of the Virgin.
If you come to Maracaibo, this is a place you must visit and get to know, not only for its activities but also for its beautiful and very modern architecture.

La Basílica y Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Chiquinquirá es la iglesia más famosa que tiene mi ciudad y tengo conocimiento que es la que ha perdurado más tiempo .
Todas quieren casarse aquí, todas quieren bautizar a sus hijos aquí y es que esta iglesia está muy bien cuidada por sus Curas y miembros de la iglesia.
Aquí se hace cada año la Feria de la Chinita, un evento que era televisado y donde venían de todas partes del mundo para asistir al aniversario de la Patrona de Maracaibo. Esa fiesta era apoteósica ya que duraba toda una semana compartiendo actividades de Gaitas, nuestra música tradicional, y donde compartían los creyentes y no creyentes en frente de una tarima cantando las canciones de los Gaiteros.
En este vitral, uno de los hermosos que tiene la iglesia, está reflejada la historia de la Virgen que se venera y que está en la letra de muchas gaitas compuestas para la misma.
Dice así: ¨Lavando una viejecita a orillas de nuestro Lago,
ella tuvo un gran hallazgo pues se encontró una tablita.
Terminada la faena a su casa la llevó,
la tinajita tapó para salvarla de la arena¨.
Toda la decoración interna de la iglesia es exclusiva, en ninguna otra verás bancas de este tipo, el techo está dibujado al relieve con pintores y escultores traídos de otros países.
En el Altar está una corona hecha de oro puro, la cual es visitada todos los días por personas de todas partes. Esta es la imagen que sacan cada 18 de Noviembre para que todos la vean y le canten en la gran plaza frente a la iglesia.
Eso que está en medio de color oscuro se supone que es la tablita que encontró la anciana, la que brilló al tenerla en su casa tapando el agua de su tinaja y desde allí dicen que vieron la imagen de la Virgen.
Si vienen a Maracaibo, este es un lugar que deben visitar y conocer, no solo por sus actividades sino por su arquitectura hermosa y muy moderna.
