Never argue with a fast food worker.
I've been working at a restaurant for a long time. Over 10 years now. I never intended to work at a restaurant for that long. Before I worked at a restaurant I was a systems analyst.
I'm living a very different life now.
At most restaurants you don't really have to worry about people spitting in your food no matter what you do or how you act.
Restaurants are very worried about their image, and if someone were to spit in your food at a restaurant it could be catastrophic for them.
They know this....so they make sure that all of their employees follow the rules.
I'm not saying that it never happens but I am saying that it's very unusual.
It's kind of a different story when it comes to fast food though. I'm sure places like McDonald's do care about their image, but there are just so many stores out there and so many employees that it's hard to keep track of them.
I've been stopping by Kentucky Fried Chicken a couple of times a week for the past couple of months.
My order always comes out to $9. It might seem like a lot but that's two meals so it's $9 well spent.
I stopped by Kentucky Fried Chicken today like I often do and was charged over $14 for the same thing I always get.
When I asked why the pricing was different, The Man Behind the Counter told me that it wasn't different and that there's no way I ever spent $9 on that amount of food.
I tried to argue with him and tell him that I've often been charged $9, and that $9 is the amount that I am quite certain the food cost. He told me that I hadn't been charged $9, and essentially that I didn't know what I was talking about.
Very frustrating.
I told him there's no way I was going to spend $14 on a couple of chicken sandwiches, and that I was going to leave and probably not come back for a while due to him cutting me off and essentially calling me a liar, when he said
Hold on.... hold on. I can give you that price, but you should know it isn't the normal price.
He told me he was the manager and he knows what prices should be charged. I said Fine, I'll order my food if it's the same price it always is.
I made sure to tell him that I wanted it to go.
After about 10 minutes of waiting another man behind the counter handed me my food on a tray. Dine in.
As I walked up to the counter this man was chuckling as if he could barely contain his laughter.
I asked him to give me to go boxes, and I boxed up on my food and came home. When I open up my sandwiches I took a look at them. They seemed a lot wetter than they should have been. There were no clear signs of spit, and definitely no signs of mucus.
I wasn't sure if pickles were wet enough to completely soak the bottom of a bun on the sandwiches or not.
Frankly, I didn't think I was in the wrong at all. I've been going to Kentucky Fried Chicken for months and ordering the same thing. I never tried to get anything by anyone. I just told him I wanted and they gave me a price and I paid it.
Did these people spit in my food?
It wouldn't surprise me. There aren't many diseases that you can get from spit though.
Nobody seemed sick, and anything major requires more than a drop of liquid.
Still, it's disquieting.
I guess I've gotten so used to the idea that no one in the restaurant business would ever spit in your food that I completely forgot about the fast food industry.
I know I didn't do anything wrong, but the guy behind the counter may have had his own agenda and I have no idea what it was.
I can tell you this for sure though....
Never argue with a fast food worker.
Now i know why you said never argue with a fast food worker
