Eat Local Dishes at Kusina Felicitas - Vigan, Ilocos Sur

Whenever we go north, we try to eat at Kusina Felicitas. This Grandpa's Inn Restaurant. Ilocos Region is known for its Spanish era structures and it is evident in Calle Uno here in Vigan. There are other places to eat in Vigan but some of them are modernized and/or popular fastfood, not offering local dishes. Why visit a place only to eat at what you can already find elsewhere? Better go local.

One of the best places to eat Ilocano dishes is at Kusina Felicitas.

Complete your Vigan experience by eating traditional culture and taste. Ilocano dishes are one of the best in the Philippines.

The inn and the restaurant has a vintage look. They even have vintage items displayed at the hotel lobby making it a mini museum of some sort.

During my first visit there, it was around Halloween season and the added spooky deco made the place look older.

Even the crew at the restaurant wear an attire that reflects traditional style. The brick walls (which were the original ones used to build this place), wooden furniture and paintings added authenticity to this place.

Notice the copper pots and pans and what-have-yous hanging on display.

The restaurant was airconditioned which is important and necessary as the heat can be unbearable. The cool welcome air already sets me at ease. The warm ambiance and the friendly crew made dining gratifying.

Of all the Filipino dishes I have tasted, Ilocano dish is one of them. The flavor and taste just takes me home.

Prices here are affordable and serving is enough. They have wide range of choices from seafood, meat and vegetable. Food here just speaks of Ilocano. The names of their dishes are in Ilocano language which gives an exotic ring to it.

Of course we ordered Vigan longganisa (sausage) which Vigan is famous for. We also ordered grilled fish, salted egg and kare-kare.(beef stew in thick peanut sauce). All those have vegetables mixed in it like tomatoes, string beans, cucumber, alfalfa, onions, and achara (pickled papaya, carrots and bell pepper). My favorite was the katuday (corkwood tree flower) and string beans salad. These were marinated and added sweet and sour dressing.

Everything is bursting with different taste, varying texture coupled with the ever present rice. Add a bit of shrimp paste in every bit and it's heaven. You cannot just stop munching.

Kusina Felicitas is located at 1 Bonifacio, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. This is just close to Calle Crisologo. They are open from 6:30 am to 10:00 pm, ready to serve you breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything meal in between. Aside from local food, they also added some dishes like Tom Yam, but it's best to taste their own classic dishes. Also, the Inn has Cafe Uno and a grillhouse called Uno Grille. Depending on the season, their menu can change and/or limited.
