Purchasing My Favorite Video Game, Tasting Maple Water

in #baseball6 years ago

Sometimes, you need to please your inner child. For me, that sometimes becomes a fairly frequent thing - whether it be something such as cheese fries or watching a movie from my youth.

This time, I decided to purchase what is probably my favorite video game franchise of all-time. I was never a huge gamer, but the couple of games I did play, I stuck with.

I'm not sure when the franchise started, maybe 1998, but it concluded in 2005. There are many other baseball fans who consider this game the best of all baseball games, which makes it more perplexing as to why they ever discontinued the franchise.

I've seen the game for sale on eBay for a long while now. At any given time, there seems to be 2 or 3 for sale, and they have always been unacceptably overpriced.

I admittedly tried to download torrents of the game, but the copy did not fully work. Thus, I told myself I would wait until I was financially comfortable.

The other day, I saw my father, which is irregular. I asked him if I could try his inversion table and he ended up showing me how it works. (I definitely need to get one). Anyway, for whatever reason, my stepmother gave me $100 - I guess out of regret, I don't know.

So, I splurged on the video game and will finally have something to do. The price still bothers me because it's sold as a "collectible" when I'm just going to play it. It isn't a framed comic book, baseball card, or the like - and it's a game that is 14 years old. The PlayStation 2 version is less than $5.

That said, there is a mod website (for this PC version only) devoted to updating the rosters, coaches, stadiums, and such and has maintained those updates for years. This is why I reluctantly paid the price.

I'll definitely be leaving a neutral review on the eBay seller's feedback page. He had it listed for $70 with a best offer option. I offered a fair $55 and was countered with $65. Why even have best offer as a seller if you aren't even willing to go lower than at least 10% below original sale price? That's just greed in this particular instance.

I'm otherwise happy to have such a game. It will both provide some nostalgia and something to do. I currently have my computer in the other room and may opt to move it into the bedroom if I can - given that I believe I can play using a controller.

On another note, I bought a few things with the remaining money - like cheap vodka, cheddar, mango, diet mountain diew, orange juice, and this.

In hindsight, I probably should have saved the money, but oh well. Today is the 4th of July and I may need something to navigate the endless sound of fireworks - not to mention feel as though I had actually celebrated in some way.

I purchased the maple water above as it sounded interesting. I wasn't all that impressed. It seems its "claim to fame" is its healthy dosage of manganese as it provides 40% of one's daily value - stating that the value totals more than one cup of kale.

At $1.88 (or so), it's not something you'd be able to buy regularly and doesn't appear to offer much else in the ways of vitamins. The taste isn't too special, either, though that's not to say it tasted poorly. Just seems like a tough product to sell outside of wealthy vegans.

But that is part of the ups and downs of trying new things like food and drink - or even new cultures. Some will be less than preferred. I am pretty content with my purchase of MVP Baseball 2005.

Happy 4th of July to those who celebrate today, and happy holidays to anyone else celebrating around this time.
