May they all be one

"It is for them that I pray, I do not pray for the world, but for those you gave me, because they are yours, I am no longer in the world, but they continue in the world, while I go to you. your name, which you gave me to be one, as we are "(Jn 17,9,11).

Beloved, do you know when sometimes a person needs to repeat a word many times until they assimilate and do something that someone asks or wants? And many times despite the efforts to repeat, the person seems not to hear, because it is more concerned in itself? Normally that someone is authority over our lives, both at home, at work, at church or even at a university.

However, it seems that an intentional deafness invades us and pretends to be crazy when someone asks us for something.

Because we are still children, we do not understand because many times they ask us to do something and we do not do it. And so it is with this word of God to the churches of today: The word of Unity.

Well, it is, that is not different in relation to the children of God and the purpose of God.

In this word, in the priestly prayer, Jesus expresses his will in the unity of the Body of those who serve Him. In reality the word ask would be inadequate for this petition and our Savior pleads with instance, that is, "pray" to the Father to keep believers in his name. For three times in this verse the Lord Jesus asks the Father for unity (Jn 17.9-11, 20-21, 22-23).

This same request with urgency was made by the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesians:

"I beg you, then, I, prisoner in the Lord, to walk worthy of the vocation to which you have been called, with all humility and meekness, with long-suffering, enduring one another in love, diligently striving to preserve life unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, there is only one Body and one Spirit, as you have been called in one hope of your vocation, there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all , which is above all, acts through all and is in everyone "(Eph 4.1-6).

But why did the Lord Jesus and the Apostle both desire and beg for unity among the brothers?

  1. "For the kingdom divided in itself will be deserted (it is devastated) and every city or house divided against itself will not subsist" (Mt 12.25).

Jesus tells us that he who does not gather with him, scatters and who is not against us is for us (Mt. 12.30). This word was spoken by the religious who said that Jesus expelled the demons by the power of Beelzebub. And that same religiosity is that it comes separating and dividing the Kingdom, the Church. The worst of the division is not the separation itself, but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. And that is why many separate. How many times the Holy Spirit wanted to renew some churches, but the doctrines, the system of men and the religiosity stifled the outpouring of the Spirit in those places. The generations come and go, but the "spirit of religiosity" continues to attack and separate the Body through methods, doctrines and all kinds of religious inventions.

Another reason that divides the Church is jealousy. In Mark 9.40 the disciples of Jesus recriminated a man who atoned for demons in the name of Jesus, but who did not follow him. Jealousy among the men of God has increasingly divided the body. For not thinking the same, jealousy has invaded the churches and many arrows of jealousy come from pulpits, which is worse. Few are those who discern these arrows and defend themselves with the shield of faith, but many are influenced by those arrows of jealousy.

Arrows often have such an evil effect that separation is inevitable in some cases. And a divided kingdom ends up being easier for the devil to delay much of the blessings that the Lord has prepared for his people, as it was with Israel in the Exodus. The devil ends up using this "legality" that the Church leaves to try to destroy the Kingdom of God. But in spite of that, we know that our kingdom is not of this world (Dn 4.3, Jn 18,36) and we have the promise that we will be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him (Tg 2.5).

  1. Because there the Lord commands his blessing. Psalm 133 says:

"Oh, how good and pleasant to live together with the brothers, for there the Lord commands his blessing, it is like precious oil on his head, which descends to Aaron's beard and descends to the neck of his garments. Hermon descends on the mountains of Zion, where the Lord commands his blessing and life for ever "(Psalm 133: 1-3).

There are many examples where there was the unity of the brothers from the NT to the present day and there the Lord ordered his blessing. As an example we can quote the promise of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Jesus had asked his disciples not to disperse, nor to leave Jerusalem until they were clothed with power. This was a tremendous promise that was fulfilled. What a magnificent strategy the Lord has done rightly on the Feast of Pentecost where everyone is gathered, Jews and Gentiles. And really the Lord commanded their blessings and many wonders and signs were done by them (Acts 2:43), just as many (almost three thousand people) accepted the word of Jesus as Savior and were baptized.

How difficult is that currently where the word most spoken is the "my" ministry. With that unity there was perseverance, fear of God, joy, simplicity of heart, praise to God and a wonderful fact: they had the sympathy of the people. All this done through an obedience to God over their own interests. All those who believed were together and had everything in common to the point of not needing each other. The unity was so great that when praying trembled the place where they were gathered and were filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 4.31) and when they met in the Portico of Solomon many signs and wonders were done, always counting on the admiration of the people.

Some time ago a movement of the Holy Spirit in unity also shook the place called Azuza. This was only 100 years ago in 1906 and there the Lord also ordered his blessing. Each time the Church rises in unity, the fruits will come.
It is expected that at this beginning of the century, in other meetings of unity of the Church, the Lord will abundantly pour out his blessings.

  1. That all may reach the unity of faith:

Many speak of revival, but few are those who with humility, meekness and long-suffering want to pay the price of the unity of the Spirit and diligently strive to preserve this unity in the bond of peace.

At present, there are few who in some churches have united not by something in common as doctrines or methods, but by a vision of the body, knowing that they are different, but living according to the word of God, in the unity of the Spirit. , true revival. The word says that there is only one body and one Spirit, in one hope of your vocation, there being one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who acts and is in everyone. The word says that he granted to the ministries for the perfecting of the saints, for the performance of his service and for the edification of the body of Christ until we all reach the unity of the faith and the full knowledge of Christ. Well, we are a body with many members.

What would be an apostolic ministry if there were no other prophetic to show a vision of the Kingdom. And what would be of the prophetic ministry if there were not the apostolic leading to a growth of the Kingdom. Only that both prophetic and apostolic ministries believe that one does not depend on another. And some forget who is the head (Christ) and that He is the one who commands the body.

The unity of faith will bring the spiritual maturity that the Church of Christ needs and will make us not fall into absurd doctrines, as well as tricks of men who lead to error. With this knowledge of God we will not be more children. The unit will bring the same language, the same thought and look. And although men involuntarily divide among themselves, we know that Christ is not divided.

  1. So that we are not intimidated by adversaries:

The Lord knew that Christians had struggles and that some adversaries, both spiritual and of earthly order, would rise up to intimidate us. Paul knew that his brothers would have some adversaries and that they should be united and firm. That is why he asked that they be established, in one spirit, with one soul and fighting together for the evangelical faith. How can we despoil, that is, plunder hell if we are not in one spirit and soul. How can we stop being intimidated by our enemies, if there is still contention among ourselves and just existing between us demands is already complete defeat for us.

The Lord asks us all to speak the same thing and that there are no divisions among us, before we are entirely united in the same mental and similar disposition. Well, we do not belong to that or that man, nor were we saved by that or that denomination, but by the only begotten Son of the Father who is One with Him and His Holy Spirit.

  1. Because only so many will know that we are children of God and believe in Jesus:

The word says that the world waits with ardent expectation for the manifestation (revelation) of the children of God (Rm 8.19). The world longs to know God and we know that the "mirrors" of the glory of Him are us, but having division, we embase the image of God. We should be his image and likeness, however we end up distorting the vision for the world. We know that when He manifests we will be like Him, because we have to see Him as He is (I Jn 3.2). But our corrupt body will still be seen by humanity, what we should not do is not give "gap" for the world to see us in this way. When we contend for something and there is a dispute between us we scratch the image of God before the world, even more than we judge this world. And this is already a complete defeat for us.

The word speaks that just as the Father and Jesus are one, we also be one with them so that the world may believe and know that the Father sent his Son out of love for humanity. When we get the second commandment in our hearts, that of loving our brothers we will be able to see beyond our natural limitations and that vision will be seen by the world. And the children of God are manifest, because they do not live in the practice of sin. Those who are not theirs (children of the devil) do not practice justice, nor do they love their brother. It does not help to believe in Jesus, if we do not love one another. The true unity begins in LOVE.

A beloved sister once said: If we have the same hope in Christ, if we are going to live together there, why do not we live together here?

Are there promises that we could anticipate here, do not you think?

But, unfortunately repeated Jerusalem (with its religiosity), we sadden the request of Jesus. Once Jesus said, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which kills the prophets and stones those who were sent to you! How many times have I wanted to gather your children as the hen gathers those of her own nest under the wings, and you do not? you have loved. "Behold, your house will be deserted" (Lk 13.34-35).

The deserted house means an empty house, without Spirit, only a religious system like any other. Do not let this happen with the Church of Christ, my brother. Do not leave the house deserted, for the thief to make the party. Pray for us to be One, strive for us to be One.

Hey, Church ... there's still time for us to be ONE.

And we will see that not only will there be the greatest revival that has already been seen on this earth, with many signs and wonders, but we will do the will of Him who brought us out of the empire of darkness for His wonderful light (I Peter 2.9).
