Kill Bill: Volume 1 (Film): Review.

in #film7 years ago (edited)

This weekend I decided to see Kill Bill again, I was a little tired, I had some time available, and I wanted to put something on TV that gave me enough entertainment without the need to think much, so I decided to see the Tarantino's work, which I had only seen once and a long time ago.

Plot

A woman decides to take revenge on the people who killed her closest people and shot her in the head.

Opinion

It all starts at a wedding chapel in El Paso, Texas, where a group of people, apparently celebrating a wedding, are killed by Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, one of the victims is a pregnant woman in a wedding dress, whom Bill, the squad leader, decides to shoot in the head right after she confesses that he is the father of her baby. Four years later, that woman wakes up from the coma in the hospital, from which she will escape facing the vigilante that they have assigned her to later start their revenge.

This film, like its sequel that I will talk about later, is in its entirety a Quentin Tarantino's work, and it is something that can not be hidden, in each moment of the film the viewer can know that is facing a Tarantino's movie, his personal style is impregnated in the two Kill Bill films more than in any other of his films.

In the movie we can see a good use of the camera and an excellent direction, as for the script, it is extremely simple, the film is about a woman who seeks revenge, and the path of blood that must go to get it. Killing and cutting off anyone who crosses between her and her goal. Because although it is true that the ultimate goal is to kill Bill, that would only be a simplification of the main character plans, which really wants to kill all the members of the squad led by Bill.

The action scenes in the film are the central part of the entertainment show that the director has built (for us?) trying to copy or honor the asian martial arts films and endowing the work with its own qualities and eccentricities.

The performances are good, mainly the role played by Uma Thurman, main character of the film, and in whom all the weight and charisma rests. The work done by Lucy Liu is also very remarkable, every moment that appears on the screen manages to convey what her character requires. Chiaki Kuriyama also makes a great performance, one of the best in the movie, her character has an incredible ferocity. The other actors also do a very good job, none of them falters at any time.

Kill Bill: Volume 1 is visual entertainment, there is nothing to think about, there are no elaborate dialogues, there is no script, no plot, no complex story, everything is simple, a woman with an insatiable desire for revenge trying to kill a series of individuals who have caused him a lot of damage, the name of the film already sums up completely what everything is about. We can appreciate an excellent audiovisual display, even some Japanese-style animations are used to relate in flashback the past of one character.

In short it is a highly entertaining film but without any complexity, well-choreographed but without exceeding the masters of martial arts cinema, however, the director manages to catch our attention with a fantastic artistic skill.
