About... Untamed // Tutuboxd
Greetings, unstoppable travelers!
First of all, I have to state how proud I am of the thumbnail I made for this post! You'll have to read the entire post to check it out, but it was made using Canva Pro, starting with an official Netflix announcement of the show, and including two drawings I made while we watched it. Drawing while watching things was something I used to love to do as a kid, so that's another plus to the cover image! I hope you like it (:
Okay, so now to the next most important thing: the titled of the show clearly reminded me of the animated masterpiece that I loved as a child: Spirit. Seeing the title Untamed made me think of a horse instantly, and that was the joke I made when I heard the name of the series to my dear cousin and his partner, that had the unfortunate singular pleasure of having me as their company in the freezing yesterday we had in Brasil. They love binge watching shows, so they already had this one in their list; for a cold lazy Sunday, it was a great plan. And yeah, I can confirm there indeed are horses on the show!!
The series follows the story of the stubborn Federal Agent Kyle Turner, played by Eric Bana, that works alongside Park Rangers in the breathtaking Yosemite National Park. I had the honour of visiting there in 2014 with my dear family, in my first trip to North America. Unfortunately the wild fires made it impossible for us to visit the famous sequoias, but that did not make the trip not worthwhile. I'll forever remember the stinning views of the Park, including the amazing Californian road that leads to there from San Francisco, and also the beautiful town of June Lake, that so warmly received us.
Needless to say, the views in the series are incredibly beautiful. It was a singular experience to revisit the area this way more than ten years later, specially after having gone recently to Banff National Park in Canada to compare the experiences. This north-western part of North America is truly something. But the story that our hard-faced protagonist goes through is not nearly as beautiful as the background.
I'll be straightforward with you that it's not a masterpiece. Due to the majority of the series being launched by Netflix for the past few years being unfortunately below average, I'd say Untamed ended up being a pleasant surprise. To be sincere, I did not expect to enjoy it much, but it made for a great binge-watchable experience. Probably if I was not having fun with people I love it would have been as enjoyable. But this does not make the characters less predictable, and it also does not save the series the fact that it uses one of the most used themes in the past hundrdd years: the bad mooded cop that is rude to everyone but is got at their job.
The main supporting character in the series is Naya Vasquez, played by Lily Santiago, a park ranger that used to work in Los Angeles and now needs to get used to a smaller community to take care off. Some scenes with her and all of this context reminded me of one of my favourite movies ever: Hot Fuzz, a British masterpiece by Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg. The suspense also really sparked my memory with the resemblances of the game Firewatch, which I really liked before the ending when me and my brother first played back in 2016, but that doesn't seem to have aged like wine, unfortunately.
To sum it up, before you appreciate my beautiful piece of art in form of an image thumbnail for this post, my conclusion is that if at this moment you've got that unfortunately so common question on your wind: "What do I want to watch on Netflix?", maybe Untamed is your answer!
This is the third post on my Tutuboxd series, after many years without writing about entertainment media here. What inspired me to write again was Thoth in this post, which led me to support it in its quest for #lifetime-rewards for users. You can learn more about @thoth.test in its git, but I wanted to register once more that I've set 5% of the rewards of this post to the project.
I dedicate this post not only to my dear cousin Dan and his partner Primiga, who have received me so well in their home for more than fice years already, but also to Amorinha, the little canine princess that is what makes this house shine 🖤 luv u
A small masterpiece indeed... ;-)
I love the fact that series titles inspire you to draw. But great! So there is creativity in the passive consumption of series after all... :-))
I don't think I'm interested in the series itself, but you've described it in such a way that people interested in the genre will definitely take a weekend off because they've become curious.
Though I could take a look at the sequoias again after decades. I was in Yosemite Park in 1986. Very impressive!

Greetings @chriddi , and thank you for the kind words!
I'll specially keep this one close!
Hahaha definitely! But to be completely honest, I do believe that part of me doesn't want to just sit passively, while I try to stay away from (more!) eletronics while consuming series, so I tried bringing back this memory of mine of drawing and watching... if I found some of my 4-year-old self art pieces while watching Shrek, then we'd be able to trult talk about masterpieces!! In all seriousness, thank you for the appreciation of my drawing, and also of this experience!
Wow, and I wasn't expecting this other compliment on my writing, which I'm deeply grateful for too. I really did spend some time trying to write an article that would be useful to anyone, interested or not. And to also end it by replying to your mention of the sequoias: I'd definitely say that the most amazing character in the show is the breathtaking Yosemite National Park. I hope, if you end up watching it, that the stunning views have at least a fraction of the beauty of what you remember seeing in person. Have a nice week over there! (:

Based on your description, the series is definitely not one. Your article? Good, above average, I'd say. But the drawing!!! It made me smile - very important these days... :-))

Hey, internet friend!
For each and every day I continue to live in this planet, I find more and more that smiling and making others smile are among the most important things in this life! You also made me smile, especially with this amazing Shrek gif I love to use on WhatsApp (:
Have a nice weekend over there, maybe in the next few days I can manage to find my little Arthur drawings from watching the most iconic ogre ever
chriddi, moecki and/or the-gorilla
You are right about some of the below average productions. I tried not to expect much when watching their shows. Surprisingly, there's always some gems when you least expected them.
Greetings @emmabritt , thank you for your comment! (:
And I agree with you, even though it seems to be harder than ever to find decent picks to choose on Streamings, but it's also always nice to find a hidden gem. I hope you have a great weekend!
@massola, fantastic post! Your enthusiasm for "Untamed" is infectious, and I love how you've woven personal experiences – from your Yosemite visit to cozy binge-watching sessions – into the review. That thumbnail is indeed eye-catching; your Canva skills are on point!
It's great you found "Untamed" a pleasant surprise amidst Netflix's recent offerings. Your comparison to "Hot Fuzz" and "Firewatch" gives readers a helpful frame of reference. Plus, the dedication to your cousin, his partner, and Amorinha adds a heartwarming touch.
Thanks for highlighting @thoth.test and supporting #lifetime-rewards! I'm sure your post will inspire others to give "Untamed" a try. Upvoted and resteemed! What are some other hidden gems on Netflix we should check out?
