The Ocean Cafe

We didn’t have any special plans to visit Bantayan Beach, located in Seunuddon District, North Aceh Regency. However, after attending a wedding in Blang Andam, Madat District, East Aceh, we were invited to take a trip to this tourist spot.

It took about 45 minutes to get from our departure point to the beach. The road was quite good, fully paved. When we arrived, I saw a long stretch of coastline and calm sea waters.

Swimming wasn’t on the agenda, and the children weren’t interested either. They just played in the sand. We all preferred to relax for a while and enjoy drinks and snacks at Ocean Cafe.

We chose this cafe because it looked quite attractive. Since the entrance, the staff had been very enthusiastic in welcoming visitors. Another plus: the parking area was nicely arranged and covered with paranet netting.

So we took shelter at this cafe. Although small, it has artistic value. On the roadside, there are five uniquely shaped huts resembling an inverted bow or half a tube. The roofs are black and covered with shingle-like materials.

The front walls of the huts are painted light green with brick-red trim. Each hut has a small staircase and a wooden terrace that looks perfect for a more private, relaxing time.

Meanwhile, picnic-style wooden tables, chairs, and long benches are neatly arranged in several rows on the sand. Warm yellow light bulbs are hung between the trees, creating an aesthetic and cozy atmosphere, especially at night.

Seeing all this, I’m sure the owner intentionally designed the place to welcome many visitors in a laid-back, friendly setting.

Among the many details, one thing that caught my attention was the bright yellow trash bins placed between the huts. It gave the impression that cleanliness is a priority here.

On this visit we ordered a lot of food and drinks such as fried rice, stir-fried instant noodles, French fries, nuggets, young coconut, soda, and mineral water.

This cafe is relatively small, located just a few dozen meters from the beach. Ocean Cafe isn’t the only local business operating along Bantayan Beach.

Despite its modest size, basic public facilities such as bathrooms, ablution areas, and prayer rooms are available—though in rather average condition. For those who prefer not to sit under the huts or pine trees, there’s a second floor with a relatively open-air setting.
