Nuestra Señora de Regla Parish National Shrine or locally known as Virgin de Regla in Opon or Lady of the Rule - is a Marian apparition of the catholic church that is typically depicted with a dark skin, and a famous catholic church in our place which is located in B.M Dimataga St., Poblacion, Lapu-lapu City.

In history, the Nuestra Señora de Regla was first introduced to the Oponganons in 1735, when Fr. Francisco Avalle - an Augustinian monk who became the first parish priest of Opon, which currently called Lapu-Lapu City for today.

When he became the parish priest of Opon, he showed the Oponganons a picture of the miraculous Virgin de Regla, and told them the story about the image on the picture. Inwhich his storytelling encourages more devotions to the Nuestra Señora de Regla, which then the inhabitants decided to make the beloved image to became the patron saint of Opon or Lapu-lapu City.
In fact, the picture of the miraculous image was then frame and placed in the church, and it was decided that in every 21st of November of each year would be the fix feast celebration date of the image.

And today, the image of the Virgin de Regla is placed and incase inside a glass casing at a small chapel at back portion of the church, where devotees and pilgrims can be able to visit and pray. And another similar replica is near the top of the altar of the church.

It is one of the popular churches that usually visited by pilgrimage during Easter. Inwhich the shrine is visited because it has been known as a miraculous image whose pilgrim prayers are been answered. And there are stories and testimonies being reported that they were cured for an illness and whose prayers are being answered, but anyway, miracles maybe granted if accompanied with faith and devotion.

The church has provided a specific place for a quite and solemn meditation, a place for lighting of candles and for fervent prayers. Inwhich visitors can access at slightly back portion of the church and to escape the hustle and bustle of pilgrims coming.

In fact, it has a wide hallway passage which enough to pass by the pilgrims and devotees coming for a lighting of candles. And in my estimate width it is more or less 2 meters wide space.

There is also a donation box placed in the pilgrimage station, inwhich pilgrims and devotees can put some amounts. Its either a big or little amount but it is really a big help for the renovation and maintenance of the church.

Inside the church, there is a small plaza with a couple of benches and with trees, where pilgrims can be able to rest for awhile. Which this particular place is not a dating place but a praying place, and a specific place for meditating and venerating.

There is also a statue of Fr. Jules Chevalier MSC, which it was beautifully mold and sculptured by a master craftsmen and cast made of bronze. And to let you know, Fr. Jules Chevalier - is a French catholic priest and the founder of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, and the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. He was born on March 15, 1824 in Richelieu, Touraine, France.

There is the 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines (1521-2021), in fact, it was a quincentennial observation in the Philippines, and it was held from April 4, 2021 up to April 22, 2022. Which it commemorates in introducing of christianity in the Philippines in 1521, when the Magellan's expedition made a stopover in Cebu shore most particular in the island of Mactan.

Inside the church premises there was also an element of ten commandments placed in the corner portion of the church, just to remind pilgrims and to obey the rules as according to the daily lives.

There was also a designated comfort rooms with a rotating wall fans provided for pilgrims, most when someone experiences a call of nature or having a stomache discomfort. In fact, it is well-maintained, sanitized and very clean.

There is a specific place of trash disposal which provided by the management, where people can put their empty water bottles and of course it has really a purpose of depositing, for recycling purposes. Which always stated in my previous post and important reminders that include, no littering, no spitting, and no vandalism when visiting in a particular place and put your garbage in the proper waste disposal just to avoid any fines.

Which it has a designated entrance and exit walkway passages that is provided for the crowd of people during weekend. In fact, it is a wide space which enough to accommodate all by passes pilgrims.
