A good method of seed preservation guarantees high crop yields.

Seeds usually are the first generation of plants. Good quality seeds determine crop yield when planted as well as other factors such as timely weeding, spacing, manuring, using improved seed varieties etc.
The key to having high quality seeds arises from the method of preservation, an this applies mainly to annuals that is crops that cane be cultivated at least twice a year.

However, there are basically two main ways of preservation involving drying using sunlight and electricity. This is to reduce its moisture content.

The traditional method of drying using sunlight is mostly been carried out by small scale farmers especially in rural areas of developing countries. Materials used here are mainly badges, constructed slaps, barns which are often constructed against wind directions etc. When the seeds are ready, farmers usually have them stored in air tight containers to avoid insect infestations such as grain weevils that mostly damage grains(beans, maize, rice, soy beans, groundnuts).

For the modern method of seed drying, it involves drying of seed using electricity and thereafter treated with fumigants before packaging and mostly common in large scale farming as well as marketing companies in developed countries. However, the fumigants always have lifespans as such it is good to go for those with longer lifespans.

Worthy of note is that, both methods are practically good but the difference thus lies in the quantity of seed material to be preserved. Therefore, well preserved seed material will greatly contribute to high yields in conjunction with other factors.

This equally help in saving money and the stress required by a farmer to be running up and down especially when the planting season is approaching. Also, it can help in generating income for those farmers who did preserve their seed material in a larger quantities.

Alternatively, good seed planting material could be purchased at Research institutions as there is that guarantee that they are of good quality and were well preserved and this is for farmers who could not preserve their seeds by themselves. This will be a gate way in contributing to food security the world in our own little way which still mean a lot and thus worth making the effort. This should not just to preserve it , but should be the essence of doing it as such we will be driven by the passion of preserving quality seed material.
