Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Everyone
Hello CCS friends,
Hope you are all well and healthy. Alhamdulillah, the Creator has kept me very healthy and beautiful.
Today I have come to you with another photography. My photography today is the photography of the Gandhi insect. I feel very happy to take photographs and share it with you. I see the Gandhi insect all the time on my various vegetable plants.
These insects suck the sap of various plants and crops and damage the plants. The day I took the photograph of this insect, I saw it on a branch of a dragon tree. It was sitting quietly, I was able to take photographs of its several positions without any difficulty. Then it flew away. The few photographs I was able to take were very close to it and its body parts became clear through my photography. I hope you will like my photography.
The insect in the picture seems to be a type of shield insect, probably of the Corydius genus, which is also known locally as the "Gandhi insect" in some parts of Bangladesh and India. These insects are part of the larger group Pentatomomorpha, which includes stink bugs and other related species.
Description
Pentatomomorpha have a well-developed scutellum (a stiff extension of the thorax over the abdomen). It can be triangular to semi-elliptical in shape. The antennae usually have five segments. The tarsi usually have two or three segments.
Shield insects have glands that produce a foul-smelling fluid, which is used defensively to ward off potential predators.
They are used to suck sap from plants, or in some cases to suck the blood of other animals, as in the predatory subfamily Asopinae.
They are a variety of brown-colored stink bugs that cause economic damage to certain crops.
