Speculating on Comic Books 02.20.2019

Only one of my purchases last week made the CBSI Top 10 list last week. Of course I low balled a few Avengers No Road Home Hughes variant on eBay, but no luck on winning anything. That Hughes cover art is great, but it wasn't meant to be. I did however manage to get a copy of his Detective 1000, but that one won't be part of my daughter's collection. Sorry little one! Maybe I can flip that one down the road for that Batgirl 23.

Picks for Flips

Punchline 4

I still can't manage to buy a single copy of this series; everything is expensive and the issues sell out instantly online. I want to read it, but I don't plan on spending those scarce USDs chasing these on eBay. This issue is already at $14 USD on eBay - boo! Another easy flip if so inclinded.

Avengers 15 Parel Variant

I love this cover. It embodies everything we all love about the comic book hero ideal. The idea that there is good in humanity, and if given the possibility of having super powers, that good will shine through all the garbage. I know there is a lot of criticisms regarding the upcoming Captain Marvel film, but I can't say that I'm bothered by it. A strong female hero who potentially is responsible for saving the Universe? I'm ok with it.

I managed to get a copy for my daughter online last week. Flip it if you are interested, however: eBay prices are currently in the +$20 USD range.

Picks for My Long Term Collection

Venom 11 Gibbons Variant

Venom is still going strong and this cover is fantastic. I thought this Watchmen-esque cover would sell out, but was instead Christopher's Skrulls Variant that flew out of inventories online. Whatever cover you like, this issue is supposed to provide the identity of Eddie Brock's brother. This one could be a key issue down the road.

Conspiracy 3 Goh Variant

That Denver airport. I've heard things about it being some type of illuminati type refuge/group think center for quite some time. I haven't flown through for some time, as Zima isn't as big as it once was, but I believe there a few wild murals in the airport too that depict possible New World Order scenes. Add to that the blue horse outside the airport nicknamed "Blucipher", and I'm interested. Plus the Freemason's compass and square are adding up to 137...can't wait!

Batman 65 Love Variant

This Batman cover is wonderful. The red and the black is most certainly cool. This one should finish up the Heroes in Crisis tie-in with Gotham Girl. Let's get back to the other Batman in the Batcave already!

Nightwing 57 Dekal Variant

I love this cover; it's almost haunting. Cover A isn't bad either; if I have the extra cash come Wednesday, I'll pick that one up too. This one is a "slab city" contender.

Aquaman 45 Cover A

This one is teasing the origin of Namma, the possible meretrix of the cosmos and of the Earth. I hope the writers got their hands on some ancient secret book the rest of us don't have access to and spill the beans on this Babylonia mistress deity. I'm not holding my breath, but I can dream, can't I?

Other Items of Interest

Swamp Thing Giant (Walmart) 1

I'm driving over to my local Walmart tomorrow during lunch in hopes of picking this one up. Apparently a new character called Char Man is introduced into the Swamp Thing canon. Have I mentioned how much I love Swamp Thing before? Well, I do, in case you didn't know. Plus Swamp Thing is going to have his own show soon on DC Unlimited - I'm ecstatic.

The Light Princess 1

Based on Scottish author George MacDonald's fantasy fiction, this one features a young girl born that is immediately cursed by her mother's sister. Looking into MacDonald's background, he appears to favor the "myth making" and "Christian mysticism," with a dab of Qabalah and esotericism thrown in. Yes, yes, and yes, please. If my LCS doesn't carry this, I'll pick it up on eBay Wednesday afternoon.

Midtown 24

Here's what I've tracked thus far.

Well so far so good with Tedesco's Harley; the others have faltered. I'll update again next week with the batch from this past week.

As always, thanks so much for reading and let me know what I missed.
