Silence and sleep: forgotten human needs in the modern world
Dear reader friends. Here I leave, for consideration of reading, some general considerations on two critical aspects in the lives of people: the dream and silence. I hope you like it.
Taking moments to be silent and moments to sleep are two luxuries of our modern society.
The author.
The dream.
All this noise has had as a consequence that to make silence and to sleep calmly is a true luxury for those who appreciate this value beyond the everyday.
Arianna Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post, has referred in innumerable spaces the importance of sleeping at least 6 to 8 hours every day. Likewise, in his book The Sleep Revolution, he glimpses that the salons to take a nap will be as everyday and as common use as the meeting or conference rooms.
This issue has tried to rescue and place it at the level that corresponds to the basic needs of the person. The new technologies have turned towards the creation of special beds and mattresses. This begins to be called performance bedding, the technology of rest aimed at optimizing the performance of people.
The silence.
Silence, like the dream, is generating a whole campaign to the call of conscience.
As we all know, living in noisy places is related to the propensity to diseases, weakening of the immune system and high levels of stress. On the other hand, from recent studies we know that silence promotes the generation and re-generation of new brain cells (neurogenesis).
Likewise, silence is important for those who seek spiritual growth. A state of peace and relaxation are the fundamental requirements for a calm mind.
The philosophies based on Buddhism, specify that the natural state of the mind becomes present when it is possible to make silence a habit of life, since the excitement, the agitation and the acceleration vibrate in an amplitude close to the chaos.
In this sense, silence is what enables us to enjoy an emptiness, which is seen as a force that enhances the spirit. Contrary to this, to the people of the modern world emptiness produces stress and almost horror, such is the rejection that immediately seeks to fill the space of silence with noise.
On the other hand, Valentin Tomberg in his Meditations on the arcana of the tarot, says that silence is the beginning of the spiritual path and that for that same reason is associated with the magician's letter, which symbolizes concentration without effort or place in which no There is nothing to suppress, and consequently contemplation becomes something as natural as a heartbeat or breathing.
Finally, silence is the primary state that allows us to observe the world, the now, the here, the present. It is similar to creating a field of receptivity, excluding noise, to return to our original state in the world.
