Speak on Steem Proposal Update #1: Essentials, IPFS, Content Editors and more. [BIG UPDATE]

It has been a while since our proposal #100 was approved and we began the development of the most ambitious project we have brought to Steem, Speak on Steem. Today, after months of hard work, we are ready to present to you the first major advance of this project.

This update is huge, so get ready for all the news you are about to know, but we are talking about video, right? Then let's start as such, with our promotional teaser of this update:

IPFS Video

As we already anticipated, Speak on Steem now brings support to load and view content in IPFS, but let's not get ahead and review in detail the update that will be divided into 3 parts:

• 1: Essentials.
• 2: Interplanetary File System. (IPFS)
• 3: Content editors.

Let's start.

The eggs cannot be brooded without a nest. And because we understand this principle, we focus on developing Speak on Steem as much as possible to offer the most complete experience possible and thus be able to become the home of all content creators in Steem.

Starting with the main page:

We focus on maintaining the simple but meaningful experience with 3 buttons on the sidebar that classify the content in Trending, and New directly obtained from the Steem and TOP APIs, specialized video content ranked by the number of views obtained.

The top content is brought from the database and updated on the blockchain at 10-minute intervals to avoid making many queries at once, so the views in this section may take a while to appear.

The top bar integrates the profile, the notifications and the button to access the content editors that we will see later.

We have notifications always accessible and fresh, in addition to a button to mark them as read and another to recharge the list.

The next thing we will see will be the user profile, a key element to stay connected with our favorite authors. On the main page we will see the author's videos ordered by number of views in order to highlight the content in trend to the maximum. From there we have the following sections:

• Blog: All user posts.
• Shared: All posts shared by the user.
• Friends: List of followers/followed.
• Communities: List of subscribed communities.

In addition, we can also follow/Unfollow users.

You can also visit and interact with your favorite communities by posting directly on them, subscribing and even managing them. The teams of the communities will be able to:

• Fix posts.
• Mute posts.

The page to view publications has also undergone a considerable improvement, in addition to supporting IPFS videos we also include a lot of functionalities and optimizations that complement the entire experience.

Now you can see the details of the rewards in a comfortable way, remember that these are only estimates.

You can also see the list of people who support the post knowing the percentage used and how long ago the vote was cast.

Now you will have small and non-intrusive windows to confirm when you are going to share a publication and to select your vote width, you will also see your current power to know if it is convenient for you to vote or not.

The rest of the page was also improved, the comers, the rendering of the post, the order of the content to be able to make the text content enjoyable also if the user wishes.

The views

Currently, when the user watches a video content, he will add visits to this content, positioning it as content /top, visualization is limited to count only once a day so that creators are encouraged to attract real and organic traffic.

IPFS, which stands for Interplanetary File System, is a decentralized peer-to-peer protocol and network for storing and sharing files. Unlike the traditional way of accessing files on the Internet (through centralized servers), IPFS allows files to be distributed between multiple nodes of the network, improving efficiency, resistance and security.

IPFS is a P2P protocol for uploading files based on nodes, while the content you upload is "fixed" (stored) by a node your content will be public and visible, however, if your content is no longer stored in the nodes of the network the content may not be available.

Solutions?

Maintain a node that fixes the content of Steem users, for this we will be implementing in future stages of the project gamifications and payment elements to the project that allows us to make Speak on Steem something sustainable over time.

For now, our node is created in Storacha an IPFS provider and has 100 GB of storage to fix content, in this initial stage we will be testing the implementation of IPFS and we have granted each user 750 MB of storage so that they can test and interact with IPFS.

We will gradually scale, adopting strategies that include increasingly expanding our storage capacity and allowing users to use their own nodes if they wish.

How to upload my videos to IPFS?

In Speak on Steem we had the vision of offering a user-friendly editor, where there was no code, Markdown, or excessively complicated things. Uploading content was simply pasting the link to your video, uploading your cover, adding a brief description and that's it.

However, we notice that there are users who love to make their publications super extensive so thinking about everyone we focus especially on widely improving the experience not only of the video creators, but also of the most expert.

To do this, we separate the editor into 3 types:

• Direct climb.
• External links.
• Editor PRO.

To start editing your experience, locate the upload button. Let's see them:

The first time the user opens the editor will ask him what type he wants to use but don't worry you can always go back and change your selection to use the one that best suits your needs of the moment.

With Direct Upload you can upload your video to IPFS without worrying about markdown, or anything complicated. Just upload your file by selecting it from your library or dragging it and wait for your upload to be ready. Once you see the green sign, click next.

Here you must fill in the basic information you want in your video such as the title, description, cover, and tags. In the next step you will end up seeing a preview of the post. If everything is ready, publish it, if not, go back to the previous steps and continue editing.

If you select External Link the process will be the same, but this editor will let you continue using YouTube links as you did in the last version.

And let's go with the last of the 3 editors, but I must say that this is my favorite. The PRO Editor., is essentially the same Markdown editor that you have always used but reinforced with features that are worthy of a PRO like you.

The editor comes reinforced with buttons that will add the styles to your content for you, so you can write like a pro without worrying about the markdown, we do it for you.

You can add hyperlinks, bold, italic, quotes, ^sup and _sub, center, justify, align, upload images and even videos to IPFS directly. Making Markdown has never been easier than with the PRO editor.

Just click on the button you want and the corresponding code will be added or shade the text you want to stylize and apply it.

The PRO editor revitalizes other parts of Speak on Steem such as comments to respond and interact like a true PRO.
