He was born in Caracas on November 28, 1931, his age has not prevented him from continuing his career as an artist, in addition to being a painter he has a chair in scenography and drawing. He attended part of his studies at the school of plastic and applied arts until he was expelled due to inconveniences, but that did not stop him, he continued attending the free art workshop of Caracas exposing his first paintings, from there he made an amazing tour, presenting his works in bielanes, galleries and receiving honorary awards.

Borges is an artist who reflects on himself and his context, varying his discourse that matured over the years, in 1960 he began to experiment with materials, looking for new means of expression that satisfy him, combining it with a social theme and a figurative violence that is represented until the 70s, possibly caused by his upbringing in Catia, a neighborhood of Caracas located near the cemetery, the way in which he observed all the time the funeral parades, hurt people, vulnerable with their feelings marked her imagination a lot.

Wait room (1960)

«Before arriving at an idea I let myself go without any definite purpose and I accumulate various materials. Drawings that I have made at different times, photos, press clippings, phrases, words, I gather them in one or several folders. What unites or relates these materials is so fragile, so broad, that when I revisit the folders I find new relationships and the materials move, or the time they have been there together, locked up, separates them and I no longer find their relationships, or a folder title forces them to continue together »expresses Jacobo Borges.

In this way, in favor of the discovery to enrich his plastic language, he began to make his travels in America and Europe, collecting information, annotations, sketches, paying unusual attention to the world in a sensitive way, trying to understand what was around him “ This notion of travel in the work of Jacobo Borges took off its wings in the mid-1980s and extended its influences on the notions of 'space', 'time' and 'memory' expresses Cardenas, M. (2016) projecting a significant change in his future works he would remain there as a part of him.

Everything happen behind (1974)

Borges expresses it in an interview that he was made about the way he rethinks the concept and builds a work, the process says a lot about an artist and he perceives saving the memories and then rearranging them in a subjective way within a painting, as taught by Gino Severi in his futuristic works, recreated what he remembered after traveling the streets, inserting elements into the space that had very little to do with the original place, creating a completely new space built under the foundations of a memory .

In the series entitled "Landscapes of Memory" (2011), he uses the Duborcom technique, which is a technological means, to recreate the nature stored in his memories. Jacobo has transcended so much that he adapted to contemporaneity, taking these resources creatively to create magnificent large-scale works, full of color and expression characterized as a new figuration; he expresses that the landscapes have always been within him as a dream, something that has been asleep and imapacient for being part of the tangible world, “They are landscapes that have been within me as little pieces. I am not responsible for being abandoned there. It was a path that he had not specified. Here I open the door to a different way of looking ”

The recreation of nature worked with this new figuration shows it alive, with bright colors full of expressive lines captivating the viewer and giving a feeling of joy. Landscapes of memory enhances the beauty of our surroundings supported by the subjectivity of the artist that leaves every sensation experienced after the return of that memory.
