Pangea and the days of Peleg

This seems like a weird heading of strange words, but in fact they are linked somewhat.

What is Pangea, and who is Peleg.

This is an opinion piece by the way!

It is pretty well known that the earth and its now continents looked vastly different many years ago.
In fact it was a single large landmass that was divided into what we have today.

Here is an image that shows what it may have looked like before it was divided.

The scientific community believe this happened more than 150 million years ago.

Most people have heard about this happening and being the case.
In fact even religious people mention it as part of the biblical history where in the days of Peleg (the son of Eber) in Genesis 10,the earth was divided.

That is a serious difference in timelines, since Peleg was on the earth 2247BC which is 4266 years ago.

Thinking of the continents creeping apart as they they are now moving, a few centimetres every year, then scientifically the move makes sense to me.
I don't think one can look at that and say otherwise.

Does the division during Peleg make sense.
If you look at the time line above, and what we know of natural sciences, it does not make sense to have taken place during the time of Peleg.
For the continents to move quickly as they would have had to, it would have created such a disturbance on the land masses that almost all life on it would have been affected and/or killed and drowned.

There is no way a glib writing of such an event would have been made, and then so quickly thereafter, large nations start to rise and move as though nothing happened.

A cataclysmic event such as this sounds more like the actual flood than that of what was mentioned in Genesis 10.
For we know God works in natural ways to get His works completed.
Doesn't it make more sense for the movement of the continents to take place during the flood then? Perhaps the flood is in fact the result of such movement? It would account for massive water movements throughout the 'world', loss of almost all life and a central starting point for mankind to get going again.

This makes a lot more sense to me.....logically that is.

The flood also happened about 100 years before Peleg was born, giving more than enough time for a few generations of children to grow into a 'civilization'.
This family tree is clear in Gen 10!

Then what is that scripture talking about in Genesis 10?
25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan

Is this not a reference to the tower of Babel more than the actual continent movements?
That time line matches up, and the authors words start to make more sense to me.

In the days of Peleg, because of the language changes, mankind was divided. Each going their way to start their lives over?

To me this makes a lot more sense.

What are your thoughts on this? I'd be interested to know.

Cheers

The flood certainly happened much much earlier. Was it because of the land mass drifting apart, because of the asteroid fall, because of the volcano eruption ... who knows. These events may even be linked, partially.

Is there a hole in your map for Atlantis? :)

LOL yup the gap between Turkey and Iran :)

I've always believed those massive Biblical events were seen as natural occurrences....its the way He's always worked
