ODE TO RUSSIAN LITERATURE. ILUSTRATED BY ME./ОДА РУССКОЙ ЛИТЕРАТУРЕ. ДОСТОЕВСКИЙ vs РАСКОЛЬНИКОВ.
Dostoevsky, was a Russian novelist, short story writer, essayist, journalist and philosopher. Dostoyevsky's literary works explore human psychology in the troubled political, social, and spiritual atmosphere of 19th-century Russia, and engage with a variety of philosophical and religious themes.
Dostoevsky was born on 11 November 1821 so this year in Russian cultural society we celebrate 195 years from his birth and this year was called the year of Dostoevsky.
As intelligent person I can`t step aside and made this piece of art dedicated to Dostoevsky, which by the way I`m fond of.
Among the most significant works include the novel "Crime and Punishment", "The Idiot" and "The Karamazov Brothers ". This novels are included in the list of the 100 best books of all time in 2002. Many famous works of Dostoevsky repeatedly filmed and dramatized in the theater, staged ballet and opera productions.
I made a triptych by the three most famous novel. Today I'll show you the first one. My artwork by Crime and Punishment.

A little bit about the story.
Crime and Punishment focuses on the mental anguish and moral dilemmas of Rodion Raskolnikov, an impoverished ex-student. Raskolnikov formulates and executes a plan to kill a "nasty old woman" pawnbroker for her cash. Raskolnikov, to justify his actions, argues that with the pawnbroker's money he can perform good deeds to counterbalance the crime, change his own life and save his sister from having to marry a "benefactor" Pyotr Luzhin, while ridding the world of a vermin. But his plan was broken out because of his panic (he could not find a stash of money for so long), and sudden return of sister of this pawnbroker (a quiet, harmless, "constantly pregnant" Lizaveta, which turned an involuntary witness of the crime). the horror is that Raskolnikov have to kill her too, she became an accidental victim.
One of the main things in this plot that Raskolnikov also commits the murder to test his theory that dictates some people are naturally capable of such actions, and even have the right to perform them. The investigator, who was investigating the death of this old woman and her sister, and suspected Raskolnikov, discovered in the newspaper "Periodic speech" Raskolnikov's article "On crime", he published a few weeks before the murder lender. The author presents his views on the fact that all people are divided into two categories - "loathsome creature" and "Napoleon." Several times throughout the novel, Raskolnikov compares himself with Napoleon Bonaparte and shares his belief that murder is permissible in pursuit of a higher purpose.
But time shows who is who. Conversations with the investigator about the nature of the crime made a very strong impression on the hero, that he decided to surrenders and went to prison. further plot depicts all the disastrous moral and psychical consequences that result from the murder. Raskolnikov's psychology is placed at the center, and carefully interwoven with the ideas behind his transgression; every other feature of the novel illuminates the agonizing dilemma ("loathsome creature" or "Napoleon") in which Raskolnikov is caught.
by the way Raskolnikov killed the old woman with an AX.
This drawing of Raskolnikov in image of Dostoyevsky or Dostoyevsky in image of Raskolnikov became one of the most favorite between me and my friends, so I and my brother decided to make a t-shirts with this print.

+1 & Followed ! great post !
It is sooo sad that in America VERY few have even heard the name! In schools here they teach in a way to detract from ANYTHING that doesn't promote US .Gov views ... Tolstoy ONLY mention War and Peace ... Even Jack London a couple DOG stories, NOTHING about any of his Great works, just like Charles Dickens, all the "Real Gems" never mention in school.
And Fyodor Dostoyevsky ONLY "Crime and Punishment" (VERY boring and hard to read for YOUNG people!) His other works ... NEVER MENTIONED IN SCHOOL !!
Love his work !!!!! "The Idiot" is GREAT !! Also ! The Brothers Karamazov , Poor Folk, Notes from Underground ... about all I have read, I think are great also !

OH YEAH !!! forgot to mention ! !! IF I saw that T-shirt or the Tat ! I would be like OMG COOL ! I KNOW who that is !!!!!! Dostoyevsky in image of Raskolnikov !! FUCKING Genius !!!!!
XD
It’s actually ironic that Dostoyevsky is so preoccupied with a murder of a nasty old hag, while the Russian history is full of murders even on the highest governmental level like for example the death of the price Dmitri in Uglich. I think Maluta Scuratov wouldn’t even think twice killing not only a nasty old hag but any young and capable person. So there was a reason why Dostoyevsky chose a complete neurotic for his protagonist. The picture is cute.
Cheers
ALL history is full of murders. Thats the point of the novel :)
wow that tattoo is great..good job!
thanks :)
@nekromarinist you did that tattoo yourself?! Amazing! I'm stunned by your talents.
thanks alot @opheliafu :) yes, I did it myself. some times I do some tattoo works, but not often. I like gel pen more then tattoo machine :)
I love Dostoevsky!
The Karamazov Brothers is tops, but I liked Myshkin in The Idiot. Notes from Underground is also a good read.
