Be Very Overwhelming

Do tend to be at a higher risk of falling for, you know, certain places, certain manipulations and things like that. So there is a pretty high correlation between. People who are diagnosed as autistic have also been the victims of a traumatic experience.

So that is one kind of leaf of it, but on another herb branch, that's one branch. Another branch, though, is that the way in which autistic individuals?

Their experiences tend to be really different from a lot of other people and pretty cute. Things are in a very heightened way. If you've been in my spaces before, you'll have heard me say often that autistic people. Or like sponges, we absorb everything. We kind of soak in everything enough. That's a big reason why autistic individuals tend to. I have a lot of sensory sensitivities. Because we are literally soaking in and absorbing all of the sensory experiences that are going on around us, and we don't necessarily always know. How to filter those experiences or how to even kind of differentiate between what is my own kind of personal lived experience versus, oh, I'm absorbing the energy of another person or the emotions of another person, and this is really their experience. That's not what I'm experiencing. And so when we're in an environment that has a lot of sensory input, whether that be a lot of people or a lot of noises or a lot of lights or a lot of smells or whatever it is and or everything kind of all at once, we absorb all of that. And that can be very overwhelming and overstimulating for us....

And so in the same thing, because we are so sensitive to things like that when we are exposed to situations that maybe would evoke some emotion, whether that be fear or whether that be.Or nervousness. Or if there's an argument happening, or teasing or bullying. The autistic individual tends to absorb. that Muchh more intensely than other people do
