Holy Place #19: Sto. Niño de Cebu-Mactan Parish
Happy Sunday 😊
Today, I bring you to one of the beautiful church here in the Island City of Lapulapu. Attended the Sunday mass at three pm, still the church is full with church goers.
Sto. Niño de Cebu-Mactan Parish is a Roman Catholic church located in Mactan Lapulapu City. From the highway, the church is notably easy to recognize. Adjacent to the Megaworlds Mactan Newton, and its near at the Mactan Brgy. Hall.
History
The church, established by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC), was designed by Jose Mari Cañizares and built in 1996. A year later, it was declared a parish. The parish was turned over to the Archdiocese of Cebu on June 13, 2017.
Architecture
The church, according to one report, is inspired by the headdress of Spanish colonizer Ferdinand Magellan called morion. It is marked with soft lines and two imposing, overlapping roofs that gather in sharp angles at the top and that spread gently into curves towards the bottom. Its facade is recessed as a result of the eaves being extended outward, like a brim.
Inside is a high ceiling A dome like roofing. The cross at the center is huge with Jesus on it spreads His hands as if welcoming you to come near. The background is like the open heavens.
Chairs inside the church formed like a T. You can either choose where to sit, the center which is longer than the left and right wing. It is well ventilated. There are wall fans hanging and the air can goes in and out easily for the doors around are open gated with welded dome sliding doors.
Facing the altar, near the opening of door of the church, there is a second floor intended for the church choirs. There is a huge tainted glass with Sto. Niño image at the center being a wall decor that also visible outside the church.
After Mass Service

Church goers can ask the Priest to bless newly built motor and cars. Some also are lighting candles and pray more for all hopes and wishes.
Vendors
After the mass, you can either stop at the cotton candy and flowers on pails. Cotton candies for kids it is colorfully hang to capture kids attention. The flower and candle vendors calls church goers after mass. People are buying to bring home.
There are also food vendors near the exit. I bought some kwek kwek and buko juice 🥤 for little snacks before going home.
It is a gated church with a wide parking area for motors and cars. It will be easy for people to come if they drive. What I like also is the peaceful vibes and fresh wind blows, because of the tress in the area. There are big acacia and Dakit trees near the entrance and exit. Hope those trees stays as it definitely gives coolness to the place.
