Holy place #13 - Christ The King Cathedral, Uyo

Today I visited our Diocesan Cathedral in Uyo. The administrative headquarters of the Catholic Diocese of Uyo.

Christ The King Cathedral in Uyo stands out not only as a central place of worship for Catholics but also as a cultural and architectural landmark in Akwa Ibom State. Located right in the heart of Uyo city, it is easily accessible and hard to miss with its impressive façade, peaceful ambiance and magnificent place of worship.

It is located at No. 5 Wellington Bassey Way also known as Barrack's Road here in Uyo, the Capital of Akwa Ibom State Nigeria.
Catholic Diocese of Uyo is Suffragan Diocese in the Ecclesiastical Province of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Calabar.

The Cathedral stands as its Spiritual and administrative heart of the Catholic Diocese of Uyo.

The Sanctuary.

The Cathedral stands to be one of the most beautiful places of worship in the State. The cathedral boasts a beautiful modern design with a touch of classic elements. Its high ceilings, stained glass windows, and spacious interior create a reverent and inspiring environment for worship. The altar is beautifully adorned, and the surrounding landscaping is well-maintained, offering a peaceful environment even for non-worshipers who wish to sit and reflect.

Seating position for children

Seating and facilities | The seating arrangement has the capacity to accommodate around 1500 worshipers per mass section. It also includes two chapels for adoration, a Presbytery for Clergy and an Oratory for worship and adoration/meditation. It has an out door shed seating arrangement that can accommodate about 100 Parishioners ideal for Sunday school and gathering.

Masses are conducted regularly and are known for being spiritually enriching, well-organized, and musically uplifting. The exceptional quality of the choir contributes greatly to the liturgical atmosphere. Both English and local dialects are used during services, making everyone feel welcome.

The Cathedral is a key venue for special Liturgical event, memorable gatherings, Christmas concert such as inter-denominational carol performances, wedding, Choir competitions and Diocesan celebration.

Parking space

There is a decent amount of parking space within the cathedral premises that can contain about 50 cars, and the location is served by major roads. Taxis and tricycles (keke) readily available for easy transportation.

The Bishop's seat

The Cathedral serves as the seat of the Bishop in the Diocese of Uyo.

You can Visit on a Sunday morning for a vibrant worship experience.

Have a walk around the premises to admire the architecture and serenity of the cathedral.
