Every day, I go to school, from monday to saturday, when I step through the school gate of SMP Negeri 2 Lhokseumawe, I feel a quiet joy that words can barely describe. This place is not only where I teach, it’s where I grow, where I find meaning, and where I meet hundreds of young souls who remind me that education is not just a profession, but a lifelong mission.

1. What is your “Everyday Treasure”?

My everyday treasure is my students of SMP Negeri 2 Lhokseumawe, my second family. I have been teaching here since 2010, and it’s the place where I’ve spent the best years of my life. It’s not just a workplace, but a place full of laughter,Family, friendship, and inspiration.

2. How did it become your treasure, and what is your relationship with it?

I teach English for Acehnese children, most of them are scared of learning English. They often say, “Sir, my English is broken!”
I always smile and tell them, Broken English is fine! The most important thing is you dare to speak!”
Many of my students have low motivation. Some don’t have enough vocabulary, some have broken pronunciation, and most are too shy to speak in front of the class. They are afraid of being laughed at or making mistakes.
That’s why before I start teaching, I always make a class agreement with them. We agree to:
•Support each other
•Never bully or laugh at others
•And most importantly, just speak your broken English confidently
From that simple agreement, something beautiful grows. The class becomes full of laughter and encouragement. Slowly, they start to try. One sentence today, a short conversation tomorrow. And one day, they can speak English proudly in front of others.
That’s how my Broken English Squad was born, a fun learning movement that helps students speak without fear of grammar or mistakes. Every time I see their courage growing, I feel rich inside. That’s my real treasure.

3. What is the most important lesson your treasure has given you, without saying a word?

Teaching English in Aceh has taught me more than I ever imagined. At first, I just wanted my students to learn English. But along the way, I realized that teaching English is not only about grammar or vocabulary, it’s about building courage and confidence.
Every time I see a shy student finally raise their hand and say a few English words, my heart feels warm. It’s a small moment, but for me, it’s like watching a flower bloom.
Sometimes, they still make mistakes. Their pronunciation is not perfect. Their grammar is messy. But you know what? I love that. Because behind every mistake, there’s bravery and that bravery is what I want to celebrate.

Through Broken English Squad, I also learned how to be more patient, creative, and flexible. I don’t force them to be perfect. Instead, I make them enjoy learning. We sing, play games, and even laugh at our own mistakes. That laughter makes the classroom feel alive.
Now, when I see my students speaking English proudly, I realize, I’m not just teaching them English.
I’m teaching them to believe in themselves.
And that’s the most priceless treasure in my teaching journey

4. What is the superpower or secret ability of your treasure?

Its superpower is hope and transformation.
Every year, new students walk into my class with the same fear in their eyes afraid of English, afraid of being laughed at, afraid of failing.

But little by little, through laughter, games, and broken English conversations, that fear starts to fade. They begin to realize that English is not a monster, it’s a bridge to new worlds.

5. What melody or song best represents your treasure’s personality?

What a Wonderful World” – Louis Armstrong
When I look at my students, their smiles, their progress, their dreams, I see the beauty of education. Just like the song says, “I see friends shaking hands, saying how do you do...” In my class, they say, “How are you, Sir?” with broken English but full of heart.

Me and my friends

At the end, my true treasure is not only my students , it’s also the people who walk beside me every day. My fellow teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Lhokseumawe are more than colleagues; they are dream-builders, motivators, and family. Together, we share laughter in the teacher’s room, ideas in meetings, and endless stories about how to make our students believe in themselves.
Each of us holds the same dream, to see our students smile proudly when they finally say, “Sir, I can speak English now.” That’s the moment when every struggle feels worth it. And that’s why, no matter how broken their English is, I’ll keep reminding them “Broken English is still English.” Because courage, not perfection, is what truly matters in learning.

Saya setuju dengan anda bahwa keberanian berbicara adalah yang paling penting dari pada selalu mengeluh tentang kemampuan bahasa inggris yang buruk. Tetap semangat pak guru.
