When Politics Meets Memecoins: Thoughts on WLFI

in #bitget29 days ago

I’ve been around crypto long enough to see the rise of every trend — Doge starting as a joke, Shiba building an army, PEPE turning memes into liquidity. But what’s happening now feels different.

The Trump family has already been linked to several memecoins. First a token with Trump’s name, then his wife also got one, and now they’re going further with World Liberty Financial (WLFI).

What makes WLFI unusual isn’t just the political branding, it’s the speed of its market rollout. Some exchanges had it in pre-market, and before most traders could catch their breath, WLFI was already available in futures trading.

This raises some questions:

Are we moving into an era where tokens are less about technology and more about identity and influence?

Or are we simply watching the same meme cycle repeat, this time with a political flavor?

For me, it’s both fascinating and concerning. Influence has always driven markets, but mixing it with politics adds another layer of risk.

What do you think — are we witnessing the birth of a new category of memecoins, or just another short-lived hype?
