RE: Life imitates Black Mirror: 5 real-life technologies straight from the disturbing series

Whenever I see stories of dystopian tech futures, I look back on recent history. Every major technological advance was used to predict such horrors. What have we seen? As always, advances in technology inevitably more empower individuals than institutions, since institutions are a technology, just as are pointy sticks. Every advance in technology is better than what came before it, and always increase the ability of individuals to do things.

When 3D printing enables us to build autonomous delivery bots, how will that effect our freedom? Nothing, obviously, is without drawbacks. However, there is no worse future than one in which technology is reduced. What would be the impact of being reduced to pointy sticks again? No holocaust could mirror the decimation faced by humanity in such a future. Each technological advance causes disruption, but history reveals that we adapt and thrive the more after adapting.

Thanks!
