CNBC - Coinbase bankrolls lawsuit against Treasury Department following Tornado Cash sanctions
Six users of the recently sanctioned virtual currency service Tornado Cash filed a lawsuit against the Treasury Department on Thursday, and Coinbase supported the suit.
Treasury claims that North Korean hackers and other malicious individuals have used the service to launder more than $7 billion in digital currency over the past three years.
Crypto enthusiasts, however, believe that sanctioning crypto code is an overstep. This is because it could have a negative impact on the technology industry.
