The Renfrew County Detachment of the OPP is warning about a recent phone spoofing fraud where scammers impersonate government officials and police officers to extort money from victims.

In 2022, victims reported losing over $19 million to extortion frauds to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

The OPP is reminding residents to be vigilant and to never provide personal information or money to someone they do not know and trust.

Beware of these extortion frauds!!
