Gnik's Ramblings
Steem and Steemit Inc
I don't really want to pile on to the drama that is hard forking Steemit Inc out of there Steem, but I really don't understand it. Doesn't everyone one this blockchain have the freedom to do with their Steem as they see fit. After all, as with any other crypto, if you don't own the private keys you really don't own the crypto. Same thing goes with any "community account/bot", unless everyone in the community has the private keys to that account is it really a "community account"?
I don't think the reasons people are giving to hard fork Steem away from Steemit Inc are bad, it just doesn't feel right to me. It almost feels like taking all the free samples. They are free so it's not really against the rules, but it just doesn't feel like the right thing to do. Regardless of the reason Steemit Inc has for powering down and selling off the Steem. If I've learned anything from watching the crypto market is the coin that is dumping today, is probably going to be the biggest gainer in the next month or so.
Improved Steem/Steemit Interface
If you haven't already checked out @tarazkp's post on improving the interface you should do so now before you continue reading. I always enjoy getting more data so I can review and see what works and what doesn't. For 1 it would be nice to see what tags get the most upvotes and from who. Possibly a way to filters out the manual curators on a post from the auto votes.

SteemPeak Dashboard
One thing liked about uploading video to Youtube is all the information they provided to you. Who was watching your video, for how long, where they were located, on what device they were viewing the video on, etc. It would be neat to see who viewed my posts on steempeak, busy, or Steve to see what front end my followers were using along with other information.
It would be nice for someone familiar with tax law to set-up something that showed you taxes you owed on your Steem earnings throughout the year. It may not be needed during the bear market, but I can almost guarantee during the next bull run this would be something people would be interested in and I would hope willing to pay for each year around tax season.
Happy to Ride the Steem Train
I'm just happy to be along for the ride. At this point, I'm just trying to network and focus on things that I have under my direct control instead of worrying about Civil Warring of the Steem God's. I let stuff like that get me too worked up last year and have learned if I don't have direct control over it to not stress about it. It has made Steem and blogging much more enjoyable again.
Focusing more on building friends, writing great content that I enjoy writing, and pushing myself to stay as consistent as possible has lead to much more fulfilling content creation and networking. The mistake I made last year was setting a goal of becoming a dolphin. I thought the votes and value of my posts would keep growing not understanding how the bear market would affect things on the platform and people not being as active. Two things I didn't have control over were affecting my goal.
Looking Forward to a Productive 2019
Not sure if people enjoy reading these type of posts so let me know in the comments below. 2019 seems to be shaping up to be a great year so I'm hoping for the best and working to make it happen.
If I was a big investor and heard of a wallet getting forked off the chain to prevent the user no matter the reasons from using the funds. I would have to think what is the best option for my own investment and that be a blockchain that does not do that stuff.
It be far to easy once it starts happing for those in with power to go “if I fork 99% of everyone’s steem away my 1% is worth millions more!” Naturally it won’t start off that big it will just be “adjusting for inflation” and they just keep going after more and more.
Other cryptocurrency flat out tanked the moment a mistake was made and funds where lost like that. I hate to think how much worse it be if people where doing it on purpose.
The issue with everyone having the keys is they would self upvote themselves or trade votes with friends. In Archdruid what is now the nonmember-post channel use to be just for sharing gaming posts you found amazing. Sadly people abused it by trading “sharing.” One guy among many got caught asking other members if they would be willing to share his posts for a week into that channel that he would return the favor next week.
A community account is just one that benefits the community that follows rules in place. Which may or many not be best for everyone and sure it can lead to abuse. Using Archdruid as an example one of the first internal rules is its not permitted to vote on itself. This also extends to anyone who is rank Oracle since they are one in the same. Can’t vote on yourself, another Oracle if there were others is not permitted to vote on you. It’s a flat out NO.
I don’t just enjoy more but I find myself in need of data we do not get to expand on what I want do. At some point I’m going have set up my own site to get access to the data I need. Steemit Alex rating is also tanking due to slow down in traffic and has been for a while now. So even saying something like I have 1400 followers is more than likely not enough either. Which I’ll be finding out soon enough when I get around to writing a business email requesting access to a referral program on another site.
Yeah i cant see forking ending well at all.
I know there would be abuse if everyone owned the private keys to a community account, but just saying who ever does own the private keys to said account could power down and meave steem at any time.
And i always enjoy looking through more data as well.
