Are humans lazy?

Are humans lazy? Right now, I don't think so.

We're too busy. Busy making ends meet. Busy making money. Busy staying ahead of someone we probably shouldn't even be racing. To not fall behind. To keep appearances. We can't even mind our own business because we're conditioned to mind everyone else's. Compete and compare. A seemingly endless cycle.

So who do I hate for this?
The bourgeoisie? The winners of the game? Capitalism? The game itself? Or maybe The Manifesto of what could've been? Nevertheless, Manifesto or not, it was never a promise but a provocation. More like a middle finger. Well, it was a nice read.

Maybe I'm not even angry at the game. Maybe I'm just disgruntled because we never really followed through with the Manifesto - and the chains we were supposed to lose never quite came off.

I don't know. All I know is: we're not lazy. We're exhausted. I'm exhausted. Or maybe just confused - because I'm also lazy. Who knows anymore?

Sort:

How good it is to have renounced (almost) everything you mention...
I'm exhausted too. Physically exhausted. And I chose that myself after years of the exhaustion you mean! Guilt? That, if there is any "guilt" at all (everything is a question of perspective...), is not a manifesto, it lies solely in me. In myself, in yourself, in ourselves, because we have the choice and are allowed to decide.
Hihi, you'll understand that at the latest when you reach your wish of 40+. And then you'll be quicker than me, who waited until 50 to put this wisdom into practice... ;-)

I keep thinking about what you said - “don’t wait too long.” It never really left me. Every time I start to believe you might be right, my mind comes up with a bunch of excuses (maybe even like what I just wrote here). I don’t know - maybe age really does bring perspective, like you said. To be 40+, maybe that’s when things start to click.

I just learned the word Torschlusspanik - and your words got a lot louder in my mind. I know the word is often used with a bit of humor, but it landed strangely seriously for me.

That's another 10 years... Too long. And yet, I can't seem to agree with you now.

Physically exhausted

Let me guess, Böckchen? :-)

Torschlusspanik might be the right word. Midlifecrisis could also fit... ;-)

Böckchen?

Jep... And his watering cans are quite heavy... ;-)

I think maybe all I truly need is a Böckchen - preferably weighing 120kg of pure happiness :-))

Ah. That is why life starts at 40...

a Böckchen - preferably weighing 120kg of pure happiness

120 kg happiness even if they have to work... 😉

Oi, he's got a new career! And he still looks huge even when naked - he looks like a water Buffalo 🤭

I just can't with the smug face... Employee of the month? Lol.

Yes, a new career: Böckchen is supposed to pull a small cart, a carriage for children (or heavy watering cans... 😂). Problem: He's too fat for the harness... Now I'm having a harness made to measure and by hand. Don't ask about the higher price - I just love the animal... 🫣

Aww... That's really cute! Kid chauffeur (and watering can hauler), but which one's going to be his career path...? 😂

He's too fat

Don't be so mean... though I did notice that unfastened strap 🤭
