GOD'S FRIEND
"FOR YOU SEE YOUR CALLING, BRETHREN, THAT NOT MANY WISE ACCORDING TO THE FLESH, not many mighty, not many noble, are called."
1 Corinthians 1:26 (NKJV)
The calling being talked about in our text is about the call to salvation which ultimately would lead to a call to service. God's purpose or plan is not always according to a person's wisdom, might or physical strength, nobility or whatever.
Whatever emanated from the flesh or human nature is not always accepted or welcomed by God. The main reason is that God would not want the glory of the success gotten to be attributed to the self; your physical strength or ability or cleverness (1 Corinthians 1:29).
This is the reason why God does not usually choose or use opinionated people—those who believe in their own abilities, self-willed or wilful person—for His assignment. If you are desirous of being used of God, you would have to humble yourself and allow God to have His way in your life.
Someone who would be used by God after the call to salvation would be someone who acknowledges God in all his or her endeavour. Acknowledging or reverencing God is all about getting Him to know or carrying Him along in all you wanted to do. If this is missing in your relationship with Him, a lot of things would not be made known to you.
Ordinarily, God would not talk If someone seems not to be interested in whatever He has to say. This is the reason why, in most cases, If a request or demand is not made, that is, If you did not ask to know about something, God might not talk or say anything on it.
Talking to God and asking Him about things at hand or things you are about to do are very important. You should always engage God in conversations as you go about your daily activities. This is called acknowledgement (Proverbs 3:5,6). You do not keep God somewhere, so to speak, and tuck Him away in an isolated place from all you are doing or wanted to do until the time when you wanted to pray. God should be part of everything you are doing throughout the day; conversing and discussing with Him about everything you are doing. When this is established in your life, you have a fellowship or communion with God. Through this pattern or way of relating with God, a lot of things would be made known to you, hidden things, not only about yourself but whatever subject you brought up in the course of your conversation with Him. There are things you would ask God in the course of such conversations casually or in passing and He would give you amazing answers.
You really might not necessarily be a prophet before you know the mind of God (1 Corinthians 2:16), rather, you should just be a believer who commune and converse with God every moment of your life, through this, many hidden things would be revealed or made known to you.
This is the core of the new testament believers' relationship with God. When you get to this point:
a. It would be said that you are walking in the spirit.
b. It would also be said that you are God's friend and confidant (Isaiah 41:8; James 2:23).
c. You would be said to know the mind of God (1 Corinthians 2:16).
d. This is also called the friendship level in your relationship with God. This was the level which Abraham operated with God in his relationship with Him (Isaiah 41:8; James 2:23). This could be affirmed or seen in God's statement about the issue of Sodom and Gomorrah: "AND THE LORD SAID, “SHALL I HIDE FROM ABRAHAM WHAT I AM DOING" (Genesis 18:17 NKJV).
When God said He would not do a thing without telling or confiding in Abraham, a mortal man; the depth of their friendship could be seen in that statement.
This friendship level of relationship with God is attainable when you started acknowledging God in all you wanted to do. You would want to tell Him about everything in your life, even what transpires between you and your spouse—you want to tell God about it.
At this point there is no One that you are cordial with than God. What you cannot share or discuss with anyone would be discussed with God. This is friendship level of relationship with God! (Isaiah 41:8; John 15:16).
Start now by acknowledging Him in all things, the friendship level is attainable!
