You Can't See Me........Northwest Cascade Wanderings
Cot thinks you can’t see him, but we know better! I went into the bedroom this morning before I left for ladies Bible study and found him in this state.
You’d think he never slept last night! 🙀
The study today was on Psalm 32 and forgiveness again. We never much made it to the Bible, but side trailed on the 10 steps to forgiveness. It was an interesting study. Next week may be more of the same.
Afterwards, a couple of errands-dropping books off at the library and picking up the mail, and then home. I had a telephone conference at 2 PM , so while that was going on, I paced and then finished out with the bike.
We had an early morning visitor in the front yard.
Her daughter-a yearling, was with her although she’s not in the picture.
I’ve done articles in the past on hoof fungus.
It grows everywhere here on deadwood. It has many purposes such as an awesome fire starter, has been used in clothing, insect repellent and dyes for cloth. What I had not looked into was specifically medicinal properties. I asked GROK and here’s what it said:
Hoof fungus, commonly known as Fomes fomentarius or tinder fungus, has been studied for potential medicinal properties, primarily based on its historical use in traditional medicine and emerging scientific research. Here’s a concise overview:
• Historical Use: Hoof fungus has been used for centuries in traditional European and Asian medicine. It was employed as a remedy for inflammation, pain, and infections, often as a poultice or tea. The Ötzi the Iceman, a 5,300-year-old mummy, carried Fomes fomentarius, possibly for medicinal or fire-starting purposes.
• Modern Research: Recent studies suggest hoof fungus contains bioactive compounds like polysaccharides, triterpenoids, and phenolic compounds, which may have:
• Antimicrobial effects: Extracts have shown activity against bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and fungi, potentially useful for wound healing.
• Anti-inflammatory properties: Compounds like beta-glucans may reduce inflammation.
• Antioxidant activity: Polyphenols in the fungus may help combat oxidative stress.
• Immunomodulatory effects: Polysaccharides may stimulate immune responses, similar to other medicinal mushrooms.
• Potential anticancer activity: Preliminary studies indicate some compounds may inhibit cancer cell growth, though research is in early stages.
• Limitations: While promising, most studies are in vitro or animal-based, with limited clinical trials on humans. Dosage, safety, and efficacy need further exploration. Always consult a healthcare professional before using it medicinally.
I have to say I had no idea!
You never really realize some of the really natural resources you can find in the forest!
On another note-you can’t have pictures of Cot without one or two of Cyle. Check out those claws!
I guess that’s it for today. Over 11K steps for the day! Tomorrow begins my work week and it will be a loaded day for sure, but then the doc is gone until the 22nd, so for a bit, things will be a little more relaxed. I’m looking forward to it! 😎
Take care and enjoy the rest of your day wherever you are! 🙏🌏🙏

NKJV Psalm 32
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is no deceit.
When I kept silent, my bones grew old
Through my groaning all the day long.
For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me;
My vitality was turned into the drought of summer.
Selah
I acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I have not hidden.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,”
And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.
Selah
For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You
In a time when You may be found;
Surely in a flood of great waters
They shall not come near him.
You are my hiding place;
You shall preserve me from trouble;
You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.
Selah
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will guide you with My eye.
Do not be like the horse or like the mule,
Which have no understanding,
Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle,
Else they will not come near you.
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked;
But he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him.
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous;
And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
