Religion and morality.

My friend Emily is a very nice person. She never hurts anyone and is always ready to help others. She is very religious and believes that religion makes us moral and compassionate. I doubt it as primal poeple have societies based on some kind of moral values. This was the time when religions were not in existence. So, how could they had been make people moral and compassinate when they were not in the existence?

Morality and compassion are the virtues which we learn or adopt from seeing others. You don't have to be religious in order to be morally strong. Many people are law abiding not because they are morally strong but they are afraid of consequences of their immoral actions. You may be a good person who don't like to hurt anyone, who like to help others and who is not bad. This has no relation with your religion. There are so many religions all over the world. People of one religion claim their religion is the best and so the others. It means for a person of one religion, people of other religiouns are immoral and bad and vice versa. This is rediculous.

Being good and bad depends on many things viz. strong sense of justice and being well informed about the consequences of one's deeds. Fear of laws also makes people to keep away from bad deeds. So, religion has no role in it. I am also a religious person but I don't follow it blindly. For me, justice is supreme.

With love from Erica.
