A study shows that small mammals in Canada, including weasels, otters and chipmunks, are using foraging in the middle of the road for foraging. The researchers placed infrared cameras in six different locations on a four-lane highway in Quebec and collected data for three years. Analysis of the data shows that many small mammals enter the highway barrier through wildlife passages, and the wildlife passages are designed to help animals bypass the highway's fast lane.

"I have observed that many animals come to the isolation barriers of the road for foraging," the weepels of the University of Alberta's Department of Biological Sciences, the main author of the study. "The weasel is the most often isolated in vegetation. Species with foraging, followed by red squirrels, chipmunks, mice, voles, hummers, moles and otters."

“I didn’t expect to see all sorts of foraging behaviors. I didn’t expect animals to use wild animal passages for foraging. Because everyone thought that animals use wild animals to cross the road instead of isolating the road lanes. Take the belt as a habitat."

So, should we continue to maintain the vegetation of the highway barrier as an animal feeding habitat?

Martini explained: "Although my research did not extend to the ecosystem, nor did it explain how flexible and adaptable the animal is, the study is still relevant. Because the road's isolation zone has vegetation cover. However, without mentioning safe passages, such as wildlife passages, animals may enter the barrier through the fast lane, which increases the risk of collision between wild animals and vehicles."
