Biden Draws Criticism For Firings Over White House Cannabis Users

in #cannabis4 years ago

A number of people working with the WH were recently reported to have been fired over their past cannabis use. And this action has now brought the White House policy into question regarding drug use like cannabis.
It shouldn't be surprising to some, as there are still heavy restrictions on cannabis use around the U.S., including at the federal level.

However, considering that marijuana plays such a significant role in the literal fabric and history of the country itself and that many leaders and successful individuals have admitting to currently using or using in the past, it seems time that we stop taking opportunities away from people just because of a plant like cannabis. If they are able to do the job, who cares what they consume in their off time or what they smoked 20 years ago? That shouldn't disqualify them from the job.

It's hypocritical of an administration that has considered the idea of cannabis legalization, to still be firing people because of their cannabis use.

To make matters worse, this comes after the WH allegedly reiterated to staffers that they wouldn't be fired for such actions. But it looks like that isn't the case. Firing suitable candidates over nonviolent actions and their own personal current or past use of a controversial plant is unjust and hypocritical.
