lol. Keep it up man. This was a fun, yet dysphoric, as usual. I try not to eat canned food either. I'm starting a garden this year. I think growing your own food is one of the best ways to combat "the problem".
I was curious, is there any way a Steembot could be made that upvoted posts about sustainable technology, etc, that could take a tiny increment of value and put it into a "charity account" that could be used to fund VP technology?
Yes, but you may need to reframe the idea a little bit. The concept your missing is "delegation." You can have other accounts delegate Steem Power to your upvote bot which will increase its upvote value. You can see in my wallet that I have delegated almost all of my steem power to @artturtle. Others have delegated to @artturle as well. The upvote bot can be made to upvote only those posts that contain a specific tag like "sustainable". Making one of these bots is not easy. But there's a service called steemfollower or something like that and it will set up a rudimentary automation for your account. Not sure if it upvotes based on tags though.

I hate to say it, but you are right. A part of me wants to get the agricultural technologies outlined in The Venus Project into the hands of the common land owner so they can produce an abundance of food for their selves. People tend to share when they extra lying around, right?
