yep mig welded. That transmission is also a special transmission even though it just looks like a regular transmission. That is actually a Transmission my inlaws created that is called a Layne. You push the clutch in to lock the clutch to the input shaft. once the car is running and you let out on the clutch pedal the flywheel and clutch assembly stop spinning. once you are in high gear and racing it is a direct drive transmission.
If the garage stories are correct the Layne was the original and then companies like bert and brinn copied it and modified it to what they have now with the internal clutches and stuff.

Sounds like the Bert or Winter Trans that are popular here in North East Modified racing. Hope you guys do not have any issues with it.
