I think the Racing version had always a hard top (for safety reasons). But I don't know if there was the option to have hard top for the street Cobra. I always see cabriolet.
Completely agree with you an old 911 from the 60's, so simple and beautiful. And it's an achievable dream. 160 000 euros for this 1967 Porsche 911 S :
Ah, that might be so. Looking at the pictures closer, I can see some mounting points for a soft-top. Though it seems like it's meant to be driven more like a Speedster, where the roof is put on every once in a while. So, definitely a car to drive in warmer and dryer climates, like SoCal, not in rainy ol' England.
And while I'd choose 60s Italian any day, like an old Alfa or Lancia, an old 911 is still pretty far up there for my list of attainable classics, especially that sweet little 911 S that you showed. And if I'd really have the money to splurge, it's hard not to go for restomods, like a Singer 911...
Oh yeah Singer always does a stunning work on the 911s. I don't know at what price they sell them ? But during the auction block last November, one example done by Singer was sold for $US 825,000 (source RM Sotheby's ) :
Indeed they're wonderful, but also quite pricey. I think the price that you've quoted there is pretty much the ball-park for most Singer 911s. Since they're also bespoke, and you could specify them in more ways than one, I imagine the sky's the limit when it comes to pricing, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Singers going for $1+ million!
