Cats on Cars
The only explanation I can think of is they like to be on the top observing from a higher point.

Temperature is very high and the car's top metal isn't that cool at all, yet all the time the cats are on the cars, not in their A/c cooled room, not near the doors where the air is colder from beneath the doors, they're always on the cars.
I would say they like to be in the higher place possible because they believe they own the place, the residents included, but I see there's a wall behind which still proves the above theory while staying within the house boundaries, and could be the metal is softer for their bellies than the concrete, or just another one of the typical cats' mysteries!
