No Cultivating

There is nothing I cultivate
nothing I wish to grow
I lack a green thumb
I rely on the shrubs,
flowers,
the greenery
of the neighbors.

No plant survives here—
the flowers die before they’re ever
placed in a vase.

A vase?
I doubt I even own one.

Nothing stays alive
if nature denies it water.
The garden withers,
stays barren.
A playground for the dog
where she bounces on the trampoline
and relieves herself
without being scolded.

Nothing grows in my garden,
let alone blooms,
in this plot that doesn’t even face south.

Want to see a beautiful garden?
Peer over the fence—
not only is the grass greener next door,
the plants thrive there unchecked.
The saying holds true:
The grass is always greener...
in the neighbors’ yard.

Without green thumbs,
all things perish...
