Starting Over

in CCS6 days ago

Some of the old-timers on here may remember me. I used to post about my pet sitting adventures and rebuilding my 'Ragtag' garden.

Life got busy, as it does, and I've since retired. The garden was actually taken over by my husband, uncle-dan. We both ended up having health issues that made things even more interesting. I've had two strokes (2016 and 2018), but have recovered well except for an occasional hitch in my speech.

He didn't fare so well. He developed diabetes, plus a whole host of associated complications as time went by. He was in and out of the hospital, taking an ever-changing array of meds and doing his best to stay active. In early December of 2021, he was once again admitted to the hospital with lower belly pains. After a few weeks of investigation (as it was difficult to diagnose) they discovered he had a perforated intestine. He was scheduled for a surgical repair, but in the pre-op testing he came up positive for covid. At this point, they put him in quarantine and cancelled the surgery. Sadly, he didn't have the physical reserves to handle all of it. He passed away on February 5, 2022.

It's been a long journey getting used to the new 'normal'. Thankfully, I still have Tinker to keep me company and make me smile every day.

In trying to figure out how to proceed, I came to the conclusion that major adjustments were needed. Hence, my return to Steemit to document those changes as I move forward. Teasers for upcoming posts are why and how I decided to explore van life, plus the steps to get on the road. Please bear with me as I reacquaint myself to formatting my posts. I'm very rusty, so it may take a while to get back in the swing. Thanks for your patience.

I hope you'll come along for the ride. I'll do my best to keep it interesting!!

All I can say is: welcome back! You've been through a lot – I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like you've found a way to redefine your life. I look forward to reading more about it.

A lot has changed here; feel free to get in touch if you're unsure – my private Steem handle is @weisser-rabe and I'm usually available ;-))

All the best to you!

Hi! Nice to meet you and thanks for the warm greeting. It's definitely been an eventful few years. I do appreciate the condolences. I've had a lot of time to evaluate the situation enough to make some decisions. It'll be helpful to share things going forward.

Thanks for the offer of assistance. I'll probably need it sooner rather than later. ;-D
